Role Overview

This is a brand-new position within JD International’s Compliance Department, established to support the rapid expansion of JD’s self-operated imported Chinese food business across the UK and EU markets.

Reporting to the Food Compliance Manager, you will take full ownership of end-to-end compliance management for Chinese imported food. Your primary objective is to ensure that all products fully comply with UK and EU food regulations prior to procurement, importation, and listing, successfully executing JD’s strategic initiative to integrate compliance controls at the early product selection stage.

You will collaborate with suppliers, product operations, and compliance teams to conduct ingredient compliance reviews, map out applicable regulatory requirements, verify supplier qualification documents, create market-ready labels compliant with local regulations, refine product specification documentation, and assist in building a comprehensive product compliance management system.

Key Responsibilities

1. Conduct ingredient compliance assessments for Chinese imported food in accordance with current UK and EU food regulations.
2. Identify applicable regulatory clauses for various products and outline all required compliance documentation, including testing reports, compliance declarations, certifications, and technical data.
3. Review supplier-submitted documentation and verify product compliance qualifications prior to procurement approval.
4. Create compliant sales labels tailored for the UK and EU markets in accordance with EU Regulation 1169/2011 and corresponding UK retained legislation.
5. Compile and continuously update imported food product specification files.
6. Review Product Detail Page (PDP) content to ensure alignment with approved product specifications and physical labels.
7. Implement compliance control mechanisms during the product selection and SKU creation phases.
8. Collaborate with the product operations team to resolve various product compliance issues prior to issuing purchase orders.
9. Liaise with suppliers to request supplementary compliance documents and technical data as needed.
10. Provide product technical data to support regulatory investigations, inquiries, and product recall processes.
11. Archive and maintain compliance documents and technical records to prepare for regulatory inspections and corporate due diligence.
12. Participate in optimizing product compliance workflows, management systems, and automation projects, including the implementation of AI compliance tools.
13. Continuously monitor updates to imported food-related regulations and drive the implementation of new regulatory requirements within the organization.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree or above in Food Science, Food Engineering, Nutrition, Regulatory Affairs, or a related STEM field.
2. Fluent in both English and Mandarin, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
3. Proven experience in UK/EU food compliance, food labeling, or product specification development.
4. In-depth knowledge of UK and EU food laws and regulations.
5. Hands-on experience in food ingredient review and regulatory applicability assessment.
6. Experience in drafting food specification sheets and overseas market compliance labels.
7. Ability to interpret technical documents, laboratory testing reports, and supplier technical data.
8. Highly organized with meticulous attention to detail.
9. Excellent cross-functional communication and coordination skills, with the ability to efficiently collaborate with business, procurement, and technical teams.
10. Ability to thrive in a high-pressure environment characterized by rapid business iteration and continuous updates to processes and systems.
11. Prior experience with AI compliance tools or digital product compliance systems is highly preferred.
