Senior Mobile Developer (React Native / JavaScript / TypeScript)
Descripción del puesto
Senior Mobile Developer
Hybrid - Full Time
Position Purpose The Senior Mobile Developer is responsible for the design and delivery of a world-class mobile experience for users. This role leads mobile development for a cross-platform consumer application used by users to manage appointments, track compensation, view health screening information, and engage with service centers.
The Senior Mobile Developer brings deep expertise in iOS and Android development, consumer UX principles, and mobile security to build an app that is fast, accessible, intuitive, reliable, and compliant with healthcare data privacy standards. This role collaborates closely with UX designers, backend engineers, and Product Owners to ship high-quality mobile features iteratively.
The mobile application is a strategic anchor of the user experience. The app helps deliver a materially shorter and simpler in-center user journey and a step change in operational efficiency. This role is measured in part on contribution to those outcomes, not only on feature delivery.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role. The Senior Mobile Developer stays close enough to the code to be credible with the developers they mentor, and contributes personally to the hardest technical decisions. The role operates within the cross-domain engineering standards being established across the technology portfolio, and consumes shared engineering platform capabilities rather than building them in isolation.
Principal Accountabilities
1. Mobile Application Development
- Design, develop, and maintain the mobile application across iOS and Android platforms using React Native (or equivalent cross-platform framework).
- Build and optimize core user-facing features including appointment scheduling, payment history, health questionnaires, push notifications, and center locator.
- Ensure the app delivers a performant, accessible, and intuitive experience across a wide range of device types and OS versions.
- Adopt AI coding assistants (Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, or equivalent) tuned for React Native and native mobile development as part of daily engineering practice. Contribute to team standards for acceptable use, prompt patterns for mobile contexts, and updated quality gates for AI-generated code.
2. Mobile Architecture & Standards
- Define and maintain mobile architecture patterns, component libraries, and state management approaches for the mobile application.
- Establish and enforce mobile coding standards, performance benchmarks, and security practices across the mobile codebase.
- Evaluate and recommend new mobile libraries, frameworks, and tooling to improve developer productivity and app quality.
- Design for AI-enabled user experiences including on-device machine learning for personalization and predictive UX where the evidence supports it, cloud-side AI consumption for capabilities that require it, and graceful degradation when AI capabilities are unavailable or low-confidence. Coordinate with the AI/ML Product Engineer on the shared AI operations layer that supports these features.
3. API Integration & Backend Collaboration
- Integrate the mobile application with backend APIs, authentication services (OAuth 2.0 / OIDC), and third-party SDKs (push notifications, analytics, payment processors).
- Partner with backend and integration engineers to define API contracts, manage versioning, and handle offline-first and caching patterns.
- Integrate with AI capability endpoints as first-class integration surfaces, applying the same reliability, observability, and error-handling discipline used for any other backend service the mobile app depends on.
4. Security, Privacy & Compliance
- Implement mobile security best practices: certificate pinning, secure storage, biometric authentication, and app transport security.
- Ensure the mobile application complies with HIPAA mobile data handling requirements, Apple App Store, and Google Play Store policies.
- Participate in mobile-specific security reviews and penetration test remediation.
- Ensure the mobile application complies with applicable healthcare data privacy requirements including HIPAA where relevant, and with Apple App Store and Google Play Store policies. Deliver security controls through the shared engineering platform wherever possible so user data protection is a default that new features inherit rather than a per-feature engineering task.
5. Quality & App Store Operations
- Build and maintain a comprehensive mobile testing suite including unit tests, UI automation tests (Detox, XCTest, Espresso), and device-farm regression testing.
- Manage the app release process including build pipelines, TestFlight/beta distribution, and production App Store/Play Store submissions.
- Define and hold service level objectives for the mobile application, including crash-free session rate, cold-start latency, and key user-journey performance budgets. Instrument the app with Real User Monitoring, session replay for quality investigation, and analytics tied to user outcomes. Use these signals to prioritize quality investment against feature delivery.
Position Requirements
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
Required Skills & Experience
- 5 years of mobile development experience with demonstrated delivery on production iOS and/or Android applications.
- Proficiency with React Native and/or native iOS (Swift/Objective-C) and Android (Kotlin/Java) development.
- Strong experience integrating mobile apps with RESTful APIs, OAuth 2.0 authentication, and third-party SDKs.
- Solid understanding of mobile UX patterns, accessibility standards (WCAG), and responsive design across device sizes.
- Experience with mobile security: secure storage (Keychain/Keystore), certificate pinning, and healthcare-appropriate data handling. Experience shipping mobile applications in either a regulated environment (life sciences, healthcare, financial services, or comparable) or a consumer-scale environment (retail, fintech, media, travel, or comparable) where reliability and user experience have direct business consequence. Comfort working inside regulated context and willingness to build working knowledge of HIPAA and applicable data privacy requirements.
- Experience managing App Store and Google Play Store release processes, review guidelines, and CI/CD pipelines (Fastlane, GitHub Actions, Bitrise).
- Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and familiarity with modern state management libraries (Redux, Zustand, React Query).
- Experience writing mobile unit and UI automation tests.
- Recent – within the last three years -- hands-on mobile engineering. This is a senior individual contributor role, not a step toward pure people management.
- Working knowledge of AI-assisted development tools such as coding assistants (Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, or equivalent), including acceptable-use standards, quality gates for AI-generated code, and effective prompt patterns for mobile contexts.
- Familiarity with on-device machine learning frameworks (Core ML, ML Kit, TensorFlow Lite, or equivalent) and the trade-offs between on-device and cloud-side AI for user-facing mobile experiences.
- Familiarity with Real User Monitoring and modern mobile observability tooling.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Experience developing consumer health, wellness, or patient-facing mobile applications.
- Prior AI feature development in a consumer-facing mobile product.
- Knowledge of HIPAA mobile app compliance and healthcare data privacy requirements.
- Familiarity with push notification platforms (FCM, APNs) and deep linking.
- Experience with mobile performance profiling, crash reporting tools (Sentry, Crashlytics), and analytics SDKs.
- App Store/Google Play published app portfolio.
Competencies
- User Empathy — designs mobile experiences from the user's perspective, prioritizing simplicity and accessibility.
- Technical Excellence — writes high-quality mobile code and holds the bar for performance and reliability.
- Security Mindset — treats user data privacy and app security as non-negotiable constraints in every feature.
- Ownership — takes responsibility for the quality and health of the mobile application from code to production.
- Collaborative Engineering — works effectively with designers, backend engineers, and product managers in a fast-paced Agile environment.
- Personal Craft — stays close enough to the code to earn the respect of the engineers around them. Contributes personally to the hardest problems and delegates confidently elsewhere.
- Reliability Ownership — owns mobile app reliability with SLO-driven discipline, structured incident response, and error-budget thinking, so the user experience remains trustworthy under load and change.
- AI Fluency — uses AI where it materially improves user experience or operational outcomes and evaluates it critically. Treats AI capabilities embedded in the mobile application as production systems that need the same operational rigor as any other, not as novelties.
