About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Generative AI/Agentic AI Engineer (d/f/m) to join our dynamic team in Ulm. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and deploying advanced AI solutions tailored for military applications.

Your responsibilities will include working on modern GenAI services such as AI chatbots and autonomous agents, integrating these solutions into our complex military systems that span sensors, situational awareness, and ground-based air defense. You will collaborate with international teams to develop secure, innovative AI functionalities that meet the highest safety and security standards. This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to pioneering AI initiatives within a highly secure and technologically advanced environment, with options for reduced working hours and tailored responsibilities to suit individual needs.

Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess a strong educational background in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related field, with at least 10 years of professional experience, including 3-4 years specifically in AI projects. You should demonstrate expertise in Python programming and have proven experience in developing Large Language Model (LLM) applications, chatbots, and autonomous agents. Familiarity with inference frameworks such as vLLM and SGLang, vector databases like Qdrant and Chroma, and AI agent platforms such as Claude Code and OpenCode is essential.

Additionally, you should have in-depth knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes, especially in secure on-premise environments. Strong understanding of Git version control, security protocols, and compliance standards is required. Fluency in both German and English, written and spoken, is necessary.

Preferred qualifications include experience with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures, MCP, CI/CD pipelines, logging and monitoring, AI cybersecurity, and LLM evaluation frameworks. Willingness to travel occasionally for business purposes is also expected.

Responsibilities

Your core responsibilities will include designing, coding, orchestrating, and testing scalable GenAI services, chatbots, and autonomous agents utilizing modern frameworks. You will deploy and maintain Large Language Model infrastructures within our secure on-premise environment, optimizing performance and managing resources effectively. Developing and refining RAG pipelines to connect internal knowledge databases and implementing MCP tools for standardized, secure interfaces will be key tasks.

Ensuring compliance with Airbus Defence and Space’s stringent security and data protection policies is critical. You will provide technical support to internal users, troubleshoot issues, and create comprehensive technical documentation and best practices. Additionally, you will actively contribute to the company's technical roadmap by developing proof-of-concept solutions for new AI use cases, helping shape the future of AI integration in military systems.
