Applied Physics — AI Data Trainer
About The Role
What if your expertise in quantum mechanics, electrodynamics, and thermodynamics could directly shape how AI understands the physical world? We're looking for PhD-level Applied Physicists to stress-test cutting-edge AI models — exposing the gaps in their physical reasoning and helping ensure they never violate the fundamental laws of the universe.
This is a fully remote, flexible contract role. No AI background needed — just deep domain mastery and a rigorous, analytical mind.
- Organization: Alignerr
- Type: Hourly Contract
- Location: Remote
- Commitment: 10–40 hours/week
- Design Advanced Physics Problems — Craft complex, open-ended problems at PhD qualifying exam level, requiring multi-step logical reasoning and rigorous mathematical derivation
- Author Ground-Truth Solutions — Produce precise, step-by-step "golden responses" with flawless physical constants, unit conversions, and airtight logical flow
- Audit AI Reasoning — Evaluate AI-generated simulations, derivations, and proofs for physical consistency — identifying where models "hallucinate" physics that violates first principles
- Improve Physics-Informed AI — Provide structured, expert feedback that helps AI systems better understand constraints like boundary conditions, conservation laws, and symmetry principles
- Holds a PhD (completed or near completion) in Applied Physics, Physics, Engineering Physics, or a closely related field
- Mastery across the core pillars: Classical Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Statistical Mechanics, and Quantum Mechanics
- Exceptional ability to explain complex physical phenomena and mathematical derivations in clear, structured written English
- Uncompromising attention to detail — units, scientific notation, and logical proof structure matter deeply to you
- Self-motivated and reliable when working independently on technical tasks
- No prior AI or data annotation experience required
- Experience with data annotation, scientific dataset evaluation, or quality assurance for research outputs
- Proficiency with MATLAB, COMSOL, Python (NumPy/SciPy), or similar scientific computing tools
- Background in computational physics, applied mathematics, or engineering physics
- Work on high-impact AI projects alongside the world's leading AI research labs
- Fully remote and flexible — work when and where it suits you
- Freelance autonomy with the structure of meaningful, expert-level technical work
- Gain rare insight into how frontier AI models are trained and where they break down
- Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
