About The Role

We are expanding our public cloud platform and infrastructure and are looking for an experienced and motivated Public Cloud Engineer to join our Cloud Engineering and Architecture team. This role focuses on Google Cloud and supports the migration of workloads to a scalable, reliable cloud environment. You will help build and operate Terraform-based infrastructure designed to make migrations straightforward and increasingly automated.

Working in an agile, interdisciplinary team, you will collaborate with technical product owners and colleagues across the business. You will help develop our Google Cloud platform, with a particular focus on virtual machines and Compute Engine, while advising teams on cloud adoption and implementation. This position is based in Hamburg or Dortmund and is offered on a fixed-term basis for two years.

Qualifications

You have a degree in information technology or a comparable qualification that demonstrates strong IT expertise. You bring relevant experience with public cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure, ideally Google Cloud, and have practical knowledge of Terraform and infrastructure as code.

Experience with version control systems such as GitLab, GitHub or Bitbucket is also expected.

You have foundational administration skills for Linux and Windows servers, along with knowledge of networking and load balancers. You are familiar with Docker, Bash and PowerShell, and can work with Python. Knowledge of industry standards, security concepts, policies and regulatory compliance in insurance or financial services is an advantage. Cloud certifications are welcome; if you do not yet hold them, you should be willing to attend training and successfully complete relevant certifications.

You communicate confidently in German and very well in English. You are collaborative, communicate clearly and can define responsibilities while distinguishing your team’s work from that of other departments. You are comfortable working in an agile setting and are motivated to develop your skills continuously.

Responsibilities

Design, support and operate cloud architectures for workload migrations to Google Cloud. Develop and continuously improve the Google Cloud platform, especially its Compute Engine virtual machine capabilities. Create, implement and refine architectural frameworks for cloud-based infrastructure and applications.

Assess and prioritize requirements for the VM platform backlog and roadmap. Work closely with technical product owners, using your cloud expertise to explain the benefits of migration and support teams as they plan their applications’ transition. Establish standardized processes and mechanisms, and advise teams on implementing and launching workloads in Google Cloud.

Use modern approaches to automation and CI/CD deployment, and contribute to the ongoing development of complex public cloud infrastructure and services. Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines to support reliable operations and continuous platform improvement.
