Role Overview
My client is looking for an experienced Senior Computer Vision / Edge AI Engineer to join. They are a start-up AI and Defence security intelligence company in Munich. The role focuses on developing next-generation computer vision systems, foundational ML workflows, and spatial intelligence algorithms that turn complex visual and sensor data into real-time operational awareness for defence and homeland security missions.
Key Responsibilities
- Model Development & Optimization: Design, train, and optimize advanced computer vision architectures (CNNs, Vision Transformers, and object detection/tracking models) capable of processing high-resolution visual and thermal feeds at the edge.
- Core ML Engineering & MLOps: Architect, build, and maintain scalable machine learning pipelines, robust data ingestion workflows, automated training loops, and rigorous model evaluation frameworks from scratch to production.
- Edge Deployment & Hardware Acceleration: Deploy and scale vision pipelines onto ultra-low-power edge hardware, ensuring high reliability, low latency, and real-time target recognition, classification, and tracking under constrained SWaP conditions.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with optics, hardware, and product teams to translate complex physical environments into robust, production-grade spatial intelligence systems.
Profile & Requirements
- Experience: Several years of hands-on, rigorous software and machine learning engineering experience, successfully building, training, and deploying production-grade computer vision models in real-world environments.
- Technical Stack: Strong Python expertise, deep learning frameworks (PyTorch/TensorFlow), end-to-end MLOps tooling, and extensive experience with edge AI deployment, model quantization/pruning, and image processing.
- Domain Mindset: Strong interest or background in applied optics, defence technology, robotics, or real-time sensor intelligence.
- Prerequisites: Fluent German and English communication skills, and full on-site availability in Munich (5 days per week) with valid work authorization in Germany.
