Controller (w/m/d)

Position Overview

We are looking for a full-time Controller for Systemtechnik GmbH, one of our Modaxo companies based in central Germany. In this role, you will work closely with the CFO to manage financial planning, reporting, and analysis for the business, which has about 105 employees across Germany with the main location in Sömmerda.

This is a hands-on finance role with direct exposure to business decisions, project economics, and reporting to Modaxo, the parent Group of Systemtechnik. It offers close day-to-day collaboration with the CFO, with scope to grow into broader finance responsibilities.

This is a hybrid role with 3 days in the office.

Key Responsibilities

Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing process together with the CFO, ensuring accurate and timely reporting into Group finance systems. This also includes supporting the accounting team at months end, e.g. leasing accounting, provision booking
• Prepare budgets, forecasts, and rolling financial plans, including variance analysis against actuals and clear commentary for management.
• Act as a business partner to department and project leads, especially sales and Project Management. Drive financial and progress tracking as well as margin analysis of customer projects and follow-up with the sales department on current market opportunities to ensure accurate forecasting
• Support the CFO in preparing Board and Group-level reporting packages, including KPI tracking and ad hoc financial analysis.
• Monitor cash flow, working capital, and key balance sheet items; flag risks and opportunities early.
• Support internal controls, audit preparation, and compliance with Group finance policies (IFRS) as well as German accounting standards (HGB).
• Contribute to business cases and investment decisions, including pricing and profitability analysis for new projects and contracts.
• Continuously improve financial processes, reporting templates, and controlling tools, working with Group finance and IT where relevant. This might include supporting the implementation of a new accounting system (NetSuite).
• Support the CFO across a range of finance and business topics, and represent Finance in cross-functional projects across the business.

Qualifications & Experience

• Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a comparable qualification.
• Several years of relevant experience in controlling, financial planning & analysis, or a similar finance role, ideally in a mid-sized software, technology, or engineering company.
• Solid understanding of IFRS as well as German accounting principles (HGB).
• Strong analytical skills and comfort working with detailed financial and operational data.
• Advanced Excel skills; experience with different ERP systems, especially NetSuite, is an advantage.
• Fluent in English and German (both written and spoken) – this is a must-have for the role.
• Structured, hands-on, and reliable working style, with the ability to manage deadlines independently.
• Strong communication skills and confidence engaging with stakeholders across functions and seniority levels.
• Interest in taking on broader finance responsibilities over time.
• Experience in an international group structure is an advantage.
