About The Role The Services Analytics Plateau at Airbus Defence and Space GmbH is seeking an experienced Big Data Scientist to join their dynamic team. Working within an Agile Scrum framework, you will contribute to the enhancement of Airbus's analytics capabilities, focusing on digital transformation initiatives for large aircraft and defense systems. Your primary responsibility will be to develop innovative data analytics solutions that improve performance, optimize maintenance processes, and elevate customer experience.

This role involves working with extensive data pools, including terabytes of sensor and operational data, to identify patterns, develop predictive models, and support decision-making processes. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including engineers, data engineers, and product managers, to translate complex data insights into actionable strategies. The position offers flexibility, including options for reduced hours and scope adjustments, to accommodate different work-life balance needs.

Qualifications The ideal candidate will hold a Master’s degree or higher (preferably a Ph.D.) in statistics, mathematics, computer science, physics, aerospace engineering, or a related field. You should have several years of professional experience in data-driven projects, particularly within an Agile environment. Demonstrated expertise in processing and analyzing aircraft sensor data, maintenance logs, or fleet data is essential, with prior experience in health monitoring, predictive maintenance, or integrated logistics support highly desirable.

Strong knowledge of statistical analysis, probability distributions, anomaly detection, Bayesian inference, and data mining techniques is required. Proficiency in Big Data technologies such as Spark and Spark-Submit for building ELT pipelines and creating data products is necessary. Additionally, you should possess solid skills in Unix command-line operations, scripting (e.g., Bash), and Python programming in production environments.

Expertise in SQL databases, visualization tools like Spotfire, and front-end frameworks such as Streamlit or Django will be advantageous. Fluency in English is mandatory, with German language skills considered a plus.

• Present complex findings to stakeholders across various levels using visualizations and clear communication methods.
• Conduct data collection, transformation, cleansing, and integration, ensuring high data quality for analysis.
• Provide datasets for machine learning models, analyzing relationships between data source attributes.
• Apply data mining and statistical techniques to derive insights and support predictive modeling efforts.
• Create, validate, and optimize models, including machine learning algorithms, for various applications.
• Perform exploratory data analysis, content extraction, and statistical testing to support project objectives.
• Develop prototypes and production-quality code primarily using Python, supporting scalable deployment.
• Assist with proof-of-concept initiatives and ad-hoc requests, ensuring timely delivery and quality.
• Develop and analyze Monte Carlo Markov Chain (MCMC) simulations to support probabilistic modeling.
• Drive innovation in working methods and contribute to evolving data governance frameworks.
• Communicate results effectively to diverse audiences, from technical teams to executive management.
• Collaborate closely with support teams, design offices, and other stakeholders to facilitate knowledge sharing and project success.
