Hybrid in Munich or Hamburg - 3 days per week onsite
12 month freelance contract (with extensions likely)
We're partnered with a leading global semiconductor and embedded systems company and they're looking for a Senior AI Engineer with strong compiler expertise to help build a unified MLIR based edge AI compiler platform spanning a broad portfolio of hardware targets.
This is a highly technical, hands on role operating at the intersection of AI systems, Compilers, and hardware enablement, with real impact across automotive, industrial, and embedded AI applications.
Build and evolve an MLIR based compiler front end
Develop ingestion pipelines for PyTorch, ONNX, TensorFlow, and TFLite
Work with StableHLO, TOSA, torch-mlir, and custom MLIR dialects
Enable quantized models and LLM style architectures
Optimize and lower models to heterogeneous hardware
Design MLIR optimization passes and IR lowering flows
Map models efficiently to CPUs, NPUs, DSPs, and accelerators
Support backend code generation and operator enablement
Advance next generation compiler capabilities
Training graph ingestion and on device learning
Auto tuning and performance optimization
Heterogeneous scheduling across multiple IP blocks
Runtime API unification across IREE, TFLite, and ONNX style interfaces
Deliver compiler components into production AI SDKs and runtime stacks
Enable scalable BYOM deployment across multiple product lines
Work closely with internal engineering teams and external partners
Contribute to whitepapers, invention disclosures, and internal guidelines
Strong background in compiler design and ML compilers
Hands on experience with MLIR, LLVM, TVM, IREE, or XLA
Deep understanding of AI models, quantization, and hardware aware optimization
Excellent C++ and Python skills
Experience with embedded or heterogeneous compute platforms
MLIR dialect development and IR transformations
IREE AOT compilation and runtime workflows
Open source contributions in AI or compiler ecosystems
Automotive or industrial system constraints experience In accordance with local employment laws, applicants must have current, valid authorisation to work in Germany at the time of application.
