Electrical Engineer (BESS & Grid Connections)

We are supporting a European renewable energy developer with an urgent requirement for an experienced Electrical Engineer to join on an initial 6-month contract.

The role will sit within the developer’s engineering team, supporting a growing pipeline of grid-scale battery storage projects in Germany. The focus is on substation and grid connection design, acting as the client-side technical lead as projects move from development into construction.

Location: Remote, Germany, with occasional site and office visits

Start Date: ASAP

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design of BESS substations and grid connection infrastructure across the German pipeline.
• Develop and review single line diagrams, substation layouts, cable routes and protection and control concepts.
• Support grid connection applications and manage technical requirements with DSOs and TSOs.
• Manage compliance with VDE-AR-N 4110, 4120 and 4130, including unit and plant certification.
• Review EPC contractor, OEM and consultant designs as the owner’s engineer.
• Identify technical risks early in development and support cost-effective engineering solutions.
• Support due diligence, procurement packages and the transition of projects into construction.

Key Experience

• Strong background in electrical engineering on substation, transmission or distribution projects.
• Experience of BESS or renewable grid connections in Germany, ideally on the developer, IPP or owner’s engineer side.
• Knowledge of VDE-AR-N technical connection rules and the German certification process.
• Understanding of MV and HV primary plant, secondary systems, earthing and cabling.
• Fluent German and professional English.
