About The Role We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Java Fullstack Developer to join our Customer Cluster Finance team. In this pivotal role, you will support a major project within the central IT initiatives of the German tax administration.

Your primary focus will be on developing and enhancing a core process management system that orchestrates cross-functional business processes across various specialized applications. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a high-impact project that directly influences the efficiency and transparency of public financial operations.

As a Senior Java Fullstack Developer, you will be responsible for designing, modeling, and implementing technical solutions that streamline complex workflows. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, translating requirements into robust backend components, developing interfaces, and ensuring system integration. Your expertise will help optimize large-scale data processing and support continuous system improvements, ensuring the reliability and performance of critical government systems.

Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 7 years of professional experience in Java backend development, with a strong foundation in modern frameworks such as Spring and Spring Boot. You should have proven expertise in developing distributed systems and microservice architectures, with a thorough understanding of interface technologies like REST, SOAP, and messaging protocols.

Experience with BPMN and workflow engines, particularly Camunda, is essential, along with a solid grasp of modeling business processes.

Additionally, you should have comprehensive knowledge of relational databases such as Oracle or PostgreSQL and ORM frameworks like Hibernate/JPA. Familiarity with Linux operating systems and basic shell scripting is required. Proficiency with development and collaboration tools such as Git, Jenkins, Gradle, Jira, and Confluence is also necessary.

A structured, solution-oriented working style, combined with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly, will ensure your success in this role.

Experience within the public sector or in large, distributed IT landscapes is advantageous. Fluency in German at C1 level is required for effective communication within our team and with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design, model, and implement business processes using BPMN (Camunda), from requirements gathering to technical realization.
• Develop and enhance high-performance backend components based on Java (17/21) and Spring Boot to support complex, cross-application workflows.
• Create and implement interfaces (REST, SOAP, messaging) and coordinate integration efforts with related systems and teams.
• Develop technical solution designs for system-wide process flows and integrate them into existing architectures.
• Participate actively in transforming and processing large data volumes within distributed system landscapes.
• Engage with project stakeholders through remote meetings and occasional on-site visits (approximately once a month in Kaarst).
• Create, execute, and document developer and integration tests to ensure software quality.
• Maintain, support, and optimize existing software components to ensure continuous performance and reliability.
• Produce technical documentation, including interface descriptions, installation, and operational manuals.
