Machine Learning Engineer — AI Data Trainer
About The Role
What if your expertise in machine learning could directly shape how the next generation of AI models reason, plan, and solve problems? We're looking for Machine Learning Engineers to help train cutting-edge AI systems by doing something uniquely valuable: demonstrating how a skilled technical mind actually thinks.
This is a fully remote, flexible contract role built for experienced ML practitioners and technical specialists. You'll work alongside Alignerr's network of researchers and AI labs to produce the high-quality reasoning data that makes AI smarter, more reliable, and more capable in the real world.
- Organization: Alignerr
- Type: Hourly Contract
- Location: Remote
- Commitment: 10–40 hours/week
What You'll Do
- Construct precise, well-structured logical reasoning logs that walk through sophisticated technical challenges step by step
- Document how an expert approaches a problem — from initial strategy through tool selection, decision-making, and execution
- Generate high-quality training datasets that demonstrate proficient problem-solving workflows for AI models to learn from
- Critically review and refine AI-generated reasoning chains, identifying gaps, errors, and areas for improvement
- Produce examples that reflect real-world engineering judgment across a variety of ML and technical scenarios
- Work independently and asynchronously — fully on your own schedule
Who You Are
- Experienced in machine learning, software engineering, or a closely related technical discipline
- Able to articulate complex reasoning and multi-step problem-solving processes with clarity and precision
- A strong critical thinker who can audit AI-generated logic and identify where it falls short
- Comfortable working independently, managing your own time, and delivering consistently high-quality output
- Detail-oriented and methodical — you care about getting the reasoning right, not just the answer
Nice to Have
- Master's Degree or PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
- Prior experience with data annotation, data labeling, or AI evaluation workflows
- Familiarity with LLM behavior, prompt engineering, or AI training pipelines
- Background in research, technical writing, or educational content creation
Why Join Us
- Work directly on cutting-edge AI projects alongside leading research labs and AI teams
- Fully remote and flexible — work when, where, and how much suits you
- Freelance autonomy with the structure of meaningful, high-impact work
- Get rare, hands-on exposure to how advanced LLMs are trained and improved
- Contribute to AI development that influences how models reason at a foundational level
- Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
