Mechanical Engineering — AI Trainer

About The Role

We're looking for mechanical engineering experts to help train and improve the next generation of AI models. Working with Alignerr — a partner to the world's leading AI research labs — you'll stress-test advanced language models on complex engineering problems, expose their reasoning failures, and help build AI that truly understands the physical world.

This is a rare opportunity to apply your deep technical knowledge in a high-impact, flexible freelance role — no office, no commute, no rigid schedule.

  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

What You'll Do

  • Design Challenging Problems — Craft advanced engineering scenarios across fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, FEA, heat transfer, kinematics, and material science to probe the limits of AI reasoning
  • Build Ground-Truth Solutions — Author rigorous, step-by-step solutions that serve as the gold standard for AI learning and benchmarking
  • Audit Technical Outputs — Evaluate AI-generated CAD logic, thermodynamic proofs, and material specifications for accuracy, safety, and compliance with engineering standards (ASME, ISO, etc.)
  • Sharpen AI Reasoning — Identify flaws in AI reasoning — such as incorrect force distributions, energy conservation violations, or faulty assumptions — and provide structured feedback to improve model performance

Who You Are

  • Pursuing or holding a Master's or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field
  • Strong foundational knowledge in at least one of: solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, CAD/CAM, or manufacturing processes
  • Able to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and concisely in written form
  • Highly precise when reviewing mathematical derivations, unit conversions, and physical system constraints
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working independently on an asynchronous schedule
  • No prior AI experience required — we'll get you up to speed

Nice to Have

  • Experience with data annotation, technical writing, or evaluation workflows
  • Proficiency with engineering software such as SolidWorks, MATLAB, or ANSYS
  • Familiarity with AI or large language model outputs

Why Join Us

  • Work on genuinely cutting-edge AI projects alongside top research labs
  • Fully remote and flexible — work on your own schedule, from anywhere
  • Freelance autonomy: choose your hours, manage your workload
  • Gain rare insight into how frontier AI models are built and trained
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension
