About The Role
We are seeking a skilled RPG-/SQL-Developer for Power i to join our dynamic team in a full-time capacity. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and enhancing custom RPG and SQL software on modern IBM Power i systems, ensuring high availability through mirrored LPAR partitions. Your work will involve implementing expansion and maintenance projects for both internal departments and external clients, analyzing requirements from daily operations, and translating these into effective technical solutions. You will work within structured software architectures, managing modules, functions, and internal development tools. Additionally, developing and maintaining interfaces, web services, and APIs will be key components of your responsibilities, ensuring stable data flows from input to billing and output processes.
Qualifications
- Completed vocational training or university degree with a focus on computer science or related field.
- Several years of experience developing on IBM Power i systems, with strong expertise in RPG (from RPG II to Free RPG), CL, and SQL.
- Solid knowledge of IBM DB2 for i, including DDS and SQL, as well as database design.
- Experience working with triggers, stored procedures, service programs, and copy routines.
- Proficiency with development and collaboration tools such as IBM RDi, iACS, VSC4i, Jira, and Confluence.
- Understanding of customer service processes, ticketing systems, and commercial transactions (e.g., billing, transactions, toll systems) is advantageous.
- Fluent in both German and English, with excellent communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Develop, extend, and maintain custom RPG and SQL software on IBM Power i platforms, ensuring high system availability and performance.
- Implement and support expansion projects and ongoing maintenance tasks for internal teams and external clients.
- Analyze business requirements and translate them into efficient technical solutions, adhering to structured software architectures.
- Manage modules, functions, and development within internal programmer workbenches to ensure consistency and quality.
- Design, develop, and support interfaces, web services, and APIs to facilitate seamless data exchange and system integration.
- Ensure the stability and integrity of data flows from data entry through billing to output, maintaining data accuracy and security.
- Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, including customer support and business units, to address technical issues and implement improvements.
- Participate in code reviews, documentation, and testing to uphold high standards of software quality and reliability.
