An enthusiastic self-motivated team player with excellent communication and organization skills. I consider myself a ‘forever student’ eager to build on my academic foundation in biomechanics and look forward to new challenges in order to develop myself professionally and scientifically. My hunger for knowledge led me to leave a pioneer research in academia by highlighting the so far not-known plasticity, under the double stimulus of maturation and athletic training, of muscles and tendons during adolescence.
The hundreds of failures that I’ve gone through, strengthened my character with persistence and patience to accomplish my goals. An official ambassador of the Mediterranean Games (2009) and a holder of a world record in open water swimming by crossing the strait of Gibraltar.
As a former professional-elite Open Water Swimming (OWS) athlete and member of the Greek national team of marathon swimming, in my studies field, I combined my passion for sports with science. My research is focused on the plasticity of morphological and mechanical properties of muscles and tendons, and how maturation and athletic training can affect these parameters. During my PhD studies, I was honored to be a leader of a small but excellent research group allowing me to sharpen my communication and organization skills.
Among my duties was the recruitment of the potential participants for the project, as well as finding the solution of different research methodological matters, and the analysis/interpretation of the research data. The desire for the knowledge pursuit led me to participate in various conferences and relevant courses. As a part of a great research group with a high impact in the biomechanics scientific community, I had to write-up progress reports for evaluation processes, review the literature, publish in scientific magazines, and writing my doctoral thesis.
I engaged with the rehabilitation of the athletes when they have injuries problems and with the gym and swimming programs.
Major: Physical Exercise, Wellness and Health & Training in swimming
