My name is Umar Basim, and I am writing this letter to apply for the HIWI position. I am a M.Sc. Mechanical Engineering Student at Karlsruhe Institute for technology and am going to transfer to Technical University of Munich in October for continuing my masters.
I was browsing through jobs at LinkedIn and that is when I came across your job offer. Your advertisement piqued my interest because I believe that I am going to be a great fit for your company. I have been searching for an opportunity to experience a workplace environment during my masters and I know your firm can provide me with this platform.
During the last year and a half, I have been working as a Quality Assurance engineer and have developed quite a few skills that may prove beneficial to your firm. I have been responsible for implementing regression tests on JIRA and ASANA. I have also written test cases for both a web platform and an app on iOS and Android. I have experience with manual testing on test flight and have been the sole Manual tester in both the companies I have worked with. Besides regression tests I have also carried out explorative testing and feature tests.
Communicating with people, be it as a presentation in front of an audience or just a discussion with colleagues, is one of my strengths that I have developed over the years. Being a student leader over the years has honed this skill as I had to constantly communicate with the administration of the School/College. I have taken part in numerous debates and public speaking contests over the years to improve upon this skill. I know that there is always space for improvement, and I am sure that working with your company will allow me to develop on this skill.
I also have amateur experience at recruiting as I had to conduct interviews as the president of the Students Association of the international department. As the president I also worked closely with the marketing team, and we provided the international department with numerous suggestions from a student’s perspective and worked on the improvement of the marketing. As for project management you can have a look at my CV and see that I have had numerous previous experiences. I was brought up in a very international friendly environment in Dubai, therefore I tend to mingle easily in such spaces. This will surely help me during my time at your company as I will fit right in.
I have a TOEFL-IBT score of 113 (Which I took back in 2015 for college applications) and have a good command over the English Language.
I am a curious person with a willingness to learn. If I do not know how to do a task at college than I seek advice from any source, whether it is a senior or junior, what matters most is that you learn and grow as person rather than the source.
I have great understanding of MS-Office and as a millennial have all sorts of social media presence/knowledge.
