Database Migration Engineer – Oracle to PostgreSQL & Power BI (Energy Sector)

We are looking for an experienced Database Migration Engineer to join a data platform modernisation initiative within the energy sector. The team drives migration of Oracle databases to PostgreSQL and conversion of Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) pipelines to Azure Data Factory (ADF), alongside building and optimising Power BI datasets and reports for trusted, self-service business insights. The role spans both operational and technical domains, delivering scalable, secure, and maintainable data solutions as part of a broader modernisation journey.

Key Responsibilities

• Migrate Oracle databases to PostgreSQL by refactoring and transforming core database structures, procedural logic, and data connections into scalable, high-performing PostgreSQL implementations
• Translate and convert core database logic, refactoring complex Oracle components (packages, stored procedures, functions, triggers) into clean, efficient PostgreSQL structures
• Migrate Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) workflows to Azure Data Factory (ADF), ensuring seamless data transformation and pipeline orchestration (added value: experience with Apache Airflow for workflow automation and scheduling)
• Apply migration tooling such as ora2pg or comparable data pipeline frameworks for large-scale (terabyte-level) migrations
• Develop automated migration workflows using scripting (Python, C#, or similar) to streamline schema conversion, data validation, and other repetitive transformation tasks
• Optimise PostgreSQL performance by analysing execution plans, applying indexing techniques, and tuning configuration parameters post-migration
• Collaborate across teams to minimise downtime during migrations, and provide hands-on support for testing, cutover, scaling, and troubleshooting

Requirements

Must have

• Proven experience in Oracle-to-PostgreSQL migrations, including refactoring of database structures, packages, stored procedures, triggers, and data connection logic
• Proficiency in ODI and ADF, including migrating ODI workflows to ADF pipelines (parameterisation, scheduling, integration runtime, monitoring, error handling)
• Advanced skills in Oracle PL/SQL and PostgreSQL PL/pgSQL, including procedural logic, cursors, triggers, and exception handling
• Experience with post-migration data testing and validation (verifying migrated data is complete and consistent)
• Familiarity with Azure cloud-based PostgreSQL deployments and related security best practices
• Expertise in Power BI, with proven ability to build interactive reports and dashboards using advanced functionality
• Already residing in Denmark

Nice to have

• Experience with Apache Airflow for workflow automation and scheduling
• Experience designing and implementing zero-downtime migration strategies and replication mechanisms
• Proven experience with terabyte-scale database migrations, ensuring minimal downtime and zero data loss
• Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL internals (vacuuming configuration, partition management for large datasets, memory tuning)
