Electrical Engineer (Ship Repair) at Colombo Dockyard PLC (2023-08 – 2025-07)
Leading Ship repair and Shipbuilding facility in South Asia, located within the port of Colombo, Sri Lanka.
- Performed secondary current injection testing on marine-type Air Circuit Breakers (ACBs) using T&R test equipment, following switchboard control circuit manuals, to verify long-time, short-time, and instantaneous trip settings against specified tripping characteristics and prepared simulation test reports including test results.
- Hands on experiences in installation, maintenance and service of ship equipment such as main switchboard, drive cabinets, alternators, motors operating at voltage levels 3kV, 690V & 440V, with solid understanding of marine electrical safety procedures such as LOTO, electrical work permit, PPEs and pre task inspections.
- Responsible for diagnosing and troubleshooting critical electrical faults in ship systems around the clock, throughout the year, by interpreting electrical diagrams.
- Conducted initial vessel inspections upon docking with class surveyors and ship crew, to implement identified enhancements in ship electrical systems.
- Maintain documentation such as service reports, checklists in accordance with ISO certification standards (ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 & ISO 45001:2018).
Electrical Engineer (Ship Building) at Colombo Dockyard PLC (2021-04 – 2023-07)
Projects involved: Construction of "SOPHIE GERMAIN", a specialized cable laying and repairing vessel equipped with Dynamic Positioning (DP2) for Orange Marine, France.
- Hands on experience in the whole electrical installation and wiring scope of the vessel, covering complete system package including main switchboard, bow thruster and propulsion control panel, cable machinery drive cabinets which was delivered by ABB, aligned with project specifications and timelines.
- Review electrical drawings as per IEC 60092 and collaborate with the design and quality control teams to revise issued drawings ensuring compliance with class BV rules based on practical feasibility during on-site installation.
- Lead an installation team consisted of 03 supervisors and 12 electricians, ensuring quality, efficient and safe output by providing a secure, collaborative, motivative and supportive work environment.
- Prioritize & execute tasks based on progress monitoring meeting directives with project managers and customers, to minimize delays and ensure system readiness for commissioning activities in accordance with project timelines.
Electrical Engineer at Seltech International (Pvt) Ltd. (2020-06 – 2021-03)
- Install roof top solar projects totaling 1.5MW of installed capacity and successfully integrate into national grid, Sri Lanka.
- Develop and review solar PV electrical designs including single line diagrams and wiring schematics ensuring compliance with national code SLS 1522:2016.
Engineering Trainee at Amithi Power Consultants (Pvt) Ltd. (2018-09 – 2018-12)
- Participate thermography surveys in Standard Chartered Bank -Head office and prepare thermography surveys analysis report.
- Electrical system design of Western Automobile Training Centre, including load calculation, circuit breaker & cable selection based on IET wiring regulation BS7671:2018.
