I am currently a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Copenhagen’s department of pharmacy where my project’s focus is on designing new methodologies for the analysis of glycoproteins and glycopeptides with high structural complexity. I chose this position as it combined my interest in biochemistry with method development and design. As part of my PhD I perform research using multiple LC-MS techniques which I coupled with my programming and engineering skills to achieve my objectives. This included running weekly maintenance procedures on MS and HPLC instrumentation, performance assessment of the mass spectrometric equipment including the use of automated IT scripts and documentation, trouble-shooting MS and HPLC problems and Interaction with MS specialists or instrument manufacturers’ technical support for cleaning and problem solving. During this time I worked extensively with FTICR (Bruker Daltonics
My responsibilities as a post-doctoral researcher also extend to teaching undergraduate and master students. These responsibilities include conducting biochemistry and analytical lectures and laboratory demonstration. During which, I taught students how to operate and safely handle scientific equipment. I have also been involved in negotiating purchasing prices and conditions for consumables for the instruments on which I conduct my work. Additionally, I have written Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Risk assessments for my automated platform and workflow.
Prior to my postgraduate education I was employed by Selborne Biological Services Ltd where I worked as quality control laboratory technician. During this time I was responsible for laboratory maintenance, which included cleaning duties carried out according to SOP's in compliance with the routine monitoring and maintenance of facility equipment and services. Following this I worked for ARC Sciences Limited as an applications sales representative where I conducted installations and customer training of laboratory equipment throughout the UK. My responsibilities also extended to procurement of equipment from suppliers and negotiating price of sales. During my time there I worked with an array of people within the analytical chemistry and biochemical sectors in both academic and industrial labs. I have also attended on-site training from manufacturers based both in the US and in Europe. I believe my experience with academic research which I attained during my post-doctoral and PhD positions, coupled with my prior experience in chemical instrumentation and applications, would make me an ideal candidate for the role.
