DevOps Engineer

BeOn is looking for a Senior DevOps / Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to help us manage, optimize, and scale our production infrastructure as our platform and data continue to grow.

We are looking for someone with strong hands-on experience in Linux, AWS, MySQL, Redis, Nginx, and PHP/Laravel production environments. This role is not limited to deployments — we need someone who can investigate production issues, identify root causes, improve performance, and proactively prevent downtime.

Responsibilities

• Manage and monitor Linux/Ubuntu production servers.
• Manage and optimize AWS infrastructure, including EC2, EBS, RDS, VPC, Load Balancers, and CloudWatch.
• Monitor and troubleshoot CPU, memory, disk, I/O, network, and system load.
• Diagnose production incidents such as OOM kills, high CPU usage, memory pressure, disk exhaustion, and service crashes.
• Manage and optimize MySQL/InnoDB databases.
• Analyze slow queries, execution plans, indexes, locks, connections, and database resource usage.
• Help design a strategy for databases containing tens of millions of records and continuously growing datasets.
• Manage and optimize Redis and Laravel Horizon queues/workers.
• Tune Nginx and PHP-FPM for high-traffic workloads.
• Design infrastructure that can scale horizontally as traffic grows.
• Implement reliable monitoring, alerting, logging, and observability.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and safe deployment processes.
• Implement backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Improve production availability and minimize deployment-related downtime.
• Investigate incidents, perform root-cause analysis, and implement permanent solutions.

Required Experience

• Strong hands-on experience managing Linux production environments.
• Strong experience with AWS infrastructure.
• Strong knowledge of MySQL / InnoDB performance optimization.
• Experience analyzing slow queries using EXPLAIN, indexes, Performance Schema, and slow query logs.
• Experience with Nginx and PHP-FPM.
• Experience with Redis and queue-based architectures.
• Experience operating Laravel applications and Laravel Horizon in production.
• Strong understanding of CPU, RAM, swap, disk I/O, networking, and Linux process management.
• Experience with monitoring and alerting tools such as CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, or similar.
• Experience with backups, recovery, and disaster recovery planning.
• Good understanding of DNS, SSL/TLS, HTTP, networking, and firewalls.
• Experience with Git and CI/CD.

Nice to Have

• AWS RDS MySQL / Aurora experience.
• Terraform or other Infrastructure as Code tools.
• Docker and containerized environments.
• Load balancing and horizontal scaling.
• High-availability architecture.
• Zero/low-downtime deployments.
• Large database migrations and archiving strategies.
• Experience operating high-traffic SaaS platforms.
• Database monitoring and capacity planning experience.

What We Expect We are looking for someone who goes beyond simply restarting a service when something fails.

For example, if MySQL is killed by the Linux OOM killer, we expect the engineer to determine why memory usage increased, which workloads contributed to it, whether MySQL configuration or application queries are responsible, and how to prevent the incident from happening again.

Similarly, when a database grows to tens of millions of records, we expect proactive recommendations around indexing, query optimization, partitioning/archiving where appropriate, infrastructure sizing, monitoring, and scaling strategy.
