About the role
PoultrySync is an AI-powered B2B and B2G platform that runs poultry operations end to end — from grandparent stock through the slaughterhouse, plus laboratories, feed mills, planning and quality. Our customers use it to manage millions of birds across the Middle East, Africa, Asia and the United States. When our software is slow, wrong, or down, real production decisions get made badly. That is the bar the backend has to meet.
We are looking for a senior Python engineer to own significant parts of that backend. You will work on a multi-tenant Django platform, on integrations with customer ERP systems, and on the services that put our forecasting and prediction models in front of users.
What success looks like
- First 90 days: you have shipped meaningful changes to production, you understand the domain model well enough to challenge it, and you can debug a customer issue end to end without hand-holding.
- First 6 months: you own one or more services or modules outright — their design, performance, test coverage and on-call health. Your code reviews have visibly raised the standard around you.
- First year: you are shaping architecture rather than only implementing it. Integrations you built are running at customer sites, and at least one junior or mid-level engineer is measurably better because you invested in them.
Responsibilities
- Design, build and ship backend services and APIs in Python (Django) for a SaaS platform serving enterprise and government customers.
- Model a complex operational domain: own schema design, migrations, indexing and query performance as data volumes grow.
- Build and maintain REST/JSON integrations with customer systems — ERPs such as SAP, weighing and sensor equipment, finance and reporting tools — including the specification and documentation that goes with them.
- Partner with the AI team to take forecasting and prediction models to production: serving, feature pipelines, scheduling, monitoring and graceful degradation.
- Contribute to the greenfield platform rebuild, including data migration from the legacy schema and enforcing tenant isolation throughout.
- Own reliability for the services you build: instrumentation, logging, alerting, capacity planning and participation in incident response.
- Write and maintain automated tests, and keep the CI/CD pipeline something the team trusts.
- Review code and mentor mid-level engineers — through design discussion, pairing and written feedback, not just approvals.
- Work with product managers and poultry domain experts to turn field requirements into technical design, and push back when a requirement will not hold up in production.
- Document architecture decisions so the next engineer can understand why the system is the way it is.
Qualifications
Required
- 7–10 years of professional software engineering experience, the majority of it building backend systems in Python.
- Production experience with Django.
- Deep relational database skills: schema design, query optimization, execution plans, and safe migrations against live data.
- Demonstrated experience building and operating multi-tenant SaaS or comparable enterprise systems.
- Strong REST API design, plus hands-on experience integrating with third-party or enterprise systems.
- Working knowledge of asynchronous and background processing (Celery, RabbitMQ, Redis or similar).
- Comfort with Linux, Docker, Git and CI/CD pipelines, and with at least one major cloud platform.
- A genuine testing discipline — you write tests because you have been burned without them.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, including the ability to explain technical trade-offs to non-technical colleagues.
- A track record of mentoring or technically leading other engineers.
Preferred
- Domain exposure to agriculture, food production, manufacturing, logistics or supply chain software.
- Experience integrating with SAP or comparable ERP platforms.
- Experience deploying and monitoring machine learning models in production.
- Familiarity with event-driven architectures, Kubernetes, or infrastructure as code.
- Experience with time-series, IoT or sensor data at volume.
- Internationalisation and right-to-left language support.
- Professional working proficiency in Arabic.
Why this role You will work on software that has a physical footprint — flocks, feed, trucks, processing lines — for customers who depend on it daily.
We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and are committed to an inclusive hiring process.
