Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above). Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
In addition to the Basic Education Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Applying architectural and structural engineering principles, practices and theories to provide technical guidance in support of ship maintenance, overhaul, repair and modernization; 2) Utilizing Hull System concepts, principles, material and certification requirements to develop repair and modification instructions; 3) Resolving technical problems with critical systems, complicated repairs and/or testing requirements; and 4) Working with contractors, project team members, production shops, and fleet maintenance activities to coordinate repair activities pertaining to ship structure.

Engineering research and documentation is performed in an office.
Daily visits for extended periods of time are made to production shops, drydocks and ships to troubleshoot, gather data, and/or provide technical consultation.
The use of a hardhat, safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection and other specific industrial personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
PPP applicants will be placed at the FPL, if determined Well Qualified (WQ). To receive priority consideration, the FPL must be the same grade level or equivalent of the retained grade or the grade held immediately prior to separation.
In addition to meeting all minimum qualification and eligibility requirements, ICTAP applicants must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection. A well-qualified ICTAP applicant is one who possesses the competencies and experience to perform the duties of the position successfully with orientation to learn/understand the activities, procedures, policies and processes. Demonstrated work experience in the occupation is typically qualifying for placement.
This criterion cannot be met by education and training. ICTAP candidates must provide copies of all of the following documentation at the time of application: 1) agency notice;?2) most recent performance appraisal and 3) most recent SF-50 or notification of personnel action that includes position, grade level, and duty location.
