Jose Manuel Delgado

I am a physicist with over 20 years of experience in the research, development, and also manufacturing of in vitro diagnostic (IVD) tests. Until recently, I have been Chief Master of the Rapid Test Department at Vircell S.L. (Granada), and prior to that, I worked as a senior researcher at companies such as Biokit S.A. (Barcelona) and Binax LTD (USA).

Being a PhD in Physics nevertheless, my professional career has been primarily focused on immunoassay development, chemistry, biochemistry, protein purification and the like. I have specialized in diagnostic techniques such as immunoagglutination, lateral flow and ELISA, among others. My main area of expertise is infectious diseases testing, also working on the detection of other specimens, apart from the fact that I have researched and developed a unique line of tests for the detection of PCR products (oligochromatography).

I have significant ammount of experience transferring different sort of products to manufacturing and QC. I really believe in hard work and how essential a good working environment is to get exceeding results. I consider I have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop relationships with key opinion leaders and multiple stakeholders. I have assisted the sales and marketing departments helping them with sales presentations, demos, workshops and product trials.

I have also participated in different sorts of researching projects, some of them international, which implied the elaboration of an initial schedule, the organization of all the tasks associated to the aforementioned projects, the data analysis and determining the final validation proofs. Therefore, I am familiar with scientific presentations and posters, writing reports and GMPs.

Training and mentorship is another key aspect of my professional career. Over the years, I have trained a great deal of technicians, university undergraduates, and PhD candidates, tailoring knowledge transfer to different professional backgrounds. Additionally, my expertise in developing commercial diagnostic products provides me with a unique perspective on applied research.

Given my background, I am well-suited for leadership roles in R&D and/or the production of diagnostic tests, areas I have managed simultaneously for several years. I am still remaining eager to continue learning and open to new experiences, including opportunities to live and work in different locations, both within and outside my home country.
