I was brought on board to assist with a Vulnerability and Sustainability Project and ensure the business were compliant with ISO27001.
Part of my role was to analyse the environment for any security risks or potential threats within scope and ensure that all interested stakeholders are informed or consulted where necessary. The environment consisted of cloud based technologies as well as an on-premise environment, this consisted of; AWS, Azure and Microsoft
Server technologies.
One of the big parts of this role was to reduce the risk of virus and malware infection in the environment, to combat this we configured mimecast which was encryption for the users mail as well as configure and test a Citrix environment that would clear all temporary data once the user had logged out.
As many of the environments servers were out of date it was essential that any machine connecting to the internet was updated where possible or placed in the DMZ where internet access was restricted or limited.
Another part of the server update piece was to ensure all servers were configured to only allow those with the relevant access the ability to login, we also had to ensure that only the required ports on the server were accessible and any application requiring internet access was up to date.
June 2019 to April 2020
Since working for Laing O’Rourke, I have successfully delivered a Cyber Essentials piece, so the business will be able to bid for high-level contracts earning them millions by the end of the year. This involved implementing a workstation and server patching policy as well as reviewing security risks and providing solutions for those risks. Windows 7 was coming to end of life and was deemed a risk, so a
Windows 10 upgrade needed to be designed and rolled out in order to combat the risk. One of my tasks was to design the build and provide a high-level overview of the steps that needed to be taken to implement the project.
Part of the Cyber Essentials Project included monitoring and amending access rights for teams in the business as well as running brute force attacks to ensure the system was secure. Off the back of this I was tasked with reviewing older policies and implementing new ones to comply with ISO 270001. Another issue that was discovered was the Mobile Device Estate, there were over 7000 devices split between two enterprise solutions (Mobile Iron and Intune) and everything needed to be consolidated into one place.
Policies needed to be reviewed and a default policy needed to be created and agreed upon before any migrations took place.
I have also been involved with and administration and monitoring of Splunk, which was used for monitoring suspicious activity on the network. I would work alongside the SOC team to provide resolutions on alerts that were deemed high or critical. I was responsible for analysing suspicious files and IP addresses using various tools, some of which was Virus Total and Zscaler.
I also provided support to the business in case of any issues that may have occurred as well as assisting BAU support where needed.

While working for Origin Housing I was assigned to deliver several projects that the business had running in parallel. They were short on time and resources, but I was able to provide the business with the technical skills they needed to complete them.
One of the tasks I was assigned was to bring the business in line with Cyber
Essentials and migrate a lot of their physical estate to virtual appliances or to a cloud solution (Azure). Some of the other projects that I was leading was an
Office 365 migration from Exchange 2010, a Windows 7 to Windows 10 Upgrade,
Windows build redesign and a group policy clean up.
I also assisted with BAU support which included, Fault Finding, Mentoring junior staff, Change management and implementation, Patching and upgrades as well as
System Optimization and Decommissioning of Servers.
July 2018 to September 2018
I was acting as an additional resource in the 3rd line support team, assisting with BAU backlog and ongoing projects. While working for Clarion I assisted with
P2V migrations, decommissioning servers and maintaining their current infrastructure.
The Infrastructure services used included AD, DNS, DHCP, DFS, ADFS / AD Connect,
FTP, NTFS, and Group Policy. Windows 2008 / 2012 / 2016 architecture on top of both physical and Virtual machines. Other technologies used were Azure, Office
365, Exchange 2010 and 2016 as well as SCCM.
