About The Role

As a Staff Engineer at Matera, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the company's technical vision and driving the development of its backend architecture.

Your responsibilities will include defining and evolving long-term backend systems, establishing best practices, and ensuring high-quality code standards across teams. You will lead initiatives to improve Developer Experience by integrating AI tools, optimizing tooling, CI/CD pipelines, testing strategies, and documentation. Mentoring developers of all levels, you will elevate the collective technical expertise and foster a culture of innovation and excellence.

Collaborating closely with the CTO and other senior engineers, you will contribute to the overarching technical strategy, ensuring alignment with business goals and future growth.

Matera’s technology stack includes React, Typescript, React Native, Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, Terraform, and more. The organization emphasizes autonomous squads responsible for end-to-end maintenance and feature development, with a strong emphasis on AI-driven development processes. Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience as a Software Engineer with a strong backend specialization
• Expertise in Ruby on Rails development
• Proficiency with DevOps practices and orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes and Terraform
• Full-stack inclination with the ability to lead projects from conception to deployment
• Deep understanding of application performance, database management, and infrastructure optimization
• Experience integrating AI tools and methodologies into software development workflows
• Proven leadership skills with the ability to define and communicate a technical vision
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
• Strong communication skills and ability to mentor team members
• Experience working in fast-paced, agile environments

Responsibilities

• Define and continuously improve the backend architecture aligned with the company's long-term strategy
• Identify technical limitations and propose innovative solutions, leading their implementation
• Initiate and lead impactful technical and product initiatives
• Establish and promote coding standards across all development squads
• Enhance Developer Experience through AI adoption, tooling, CI/CD, testing, and documentation
• Mentor developers at all levels, fostering technical growth and best practices
• Collaborate closely with the CTO and other senior staff to shape the overall technical vision
• Participate in strategic planning and technical decision-making processes
• Ensure the scalability, security, and performance of backend systems
• Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends to keep the company at the forefront of innovation
