About The Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer or Technical Lead to join our team on a pivotal project within the public sector. This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead and support a talented team of software engineers in designing, developing, and deploying bespoke software solutions that address complex operational challenges for a Central Government client. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on technical leader with a passion for building innovative, scalable, and secure applications.

You will work within an Agile environment, collaborating closely with stakeholders to produce high-quality solutions that meet stringent security and performance standards. Your expertise will guide architectural decisions, ensure best practices are followed, and foster a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.

Qualifications The successful candidate will possess strong commercial experience in software engineering, particularly in modern application development.

Essential qualifications include a robust background in Java development, with demonstrated experience in designing and building solutions on cloud platforms such as AWS. Proficiency in full-stack development using JavaScript, React, and TypeScript is required. Candidates should have a proven track record of leading engineering teams or providing technical direction, along with a deep understanding of software architecture, technical design, and the full software development lifecycle.

Familiarity with DevOps principles, CI/CD pipelines, containers, and Infrastructure as Code is advantageous. Additionally, candidates must meet security clearance requirements, including UK nationality and residency history, to access sensitive government projects.

Responsibilities

As a Software Technical Lead, your responsibilities will include leading and supporting a team of software engineers, providing technical guidance, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality solutions. You will design, develop, and test bespoke software tailored to operational needs, producing solution architectures and technical designs that align with project requirements. Building full-stack applications using Java, JavaScript, React, and TypeScript will be a core part of your role.

You will also be responsible for designing and deploying cloud-based solutions primarily on AWS, creating continuous integration pipelines with tools like GitLab, and managing the full software development lifecycle from requirements gathering to deployment, support, and maintenance. Promoting best practices in software quality, security, and engineering standards will be essential, along with effective communication with clients and stakeholders to translate their needs into practical technical solutions.
