About The Role
FDM is seeking a highly skilled Senior EFX Java Developer to join our client’s high-performing front-office development team within the Financial Services sector. This role is initially contracted for 12 months with the possibility of extension and offers a hybrid working model based in London. The successful candidate will be instrumental in delivering strategic enhancements to our client’s Electronic Foreign Exchange (EFX) trading systems, specifically focusing on low-latency pricing and auto-hedging capabilities for FICC E-Trading platforms scheduled for 2026.The role involves developing robust Java-based solutions, collaborating with quantitative analysts, traders, and cross-functional teams, and contributing to the continuous improvement of trading infrastructure. The position provides an exciting opportunity to work with ultra-low-latency technologies such as zero-GC JVMs, kernel bypass networking, core pinning, and advanced market data technologies, positioning the candidate at the forefront of financial technology innovation.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 8 years of extensive Java server-side development experience, demonstrating a strong technical background.
- An advanced degree in Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, Mathematics, or a relevant analytical discipline.
- Comprehensive understanding of the full technology stack, including Java, Linux, and networking protocols.
- Experience with KDB / Q is highly desirable.
- Prior experience in pricing models or algorithmic trading within any asset class.
- Exceptional communication skills to effectively liaise with technical management, quantitative teams, and trading desks.
- Proficiency with the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), version control systems like Git, CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, and configuration management tools like Ansible.
- Advanced knowledge of algorithms, data structures, design patterns, and multi-threading techniques.
- Proven experience in third-line production support, troubleshooting, and resolving complex technical issues.
- A strong team player with a proactive approach to problem-solving and workload management.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement real-time, low-latency pricing services for FX Swaps and NDF auto-hedging solutions to enhance trading efficiency and accuracy.
- Create new features and improve existing pricing and auto-hedging services for Spot and NDF instruments, ensuring seamless integration and performance.
- Maintain and update the existing codebase to accommodate external venue upgrades, regulatory changes, and internal compliance requirements.
- Engage fully with the Agile SDLC, participating in sprint planning, stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives to foster continuous delivery and improvement.
- Collaborate closely with the Quantitative Strategies Group to review code, optimize algorithms, and enhance back-testing capabilities for strategy validation.
- Independently troubleshoot, resolve production issues, and manage workload effectively, escalating issues when necessary to ensure minimal downtime and optimal system performance.
- Work cross-functionally with teams involved in market access, dashboard development, and price distribution to ensure cohesive system integration.
