The Role:
As a Junior Linux Installations & Logistics Engineer, you will support both the technical deployment and operational logistics of Linux-based systems installed at cinema client sites.
Working within the Content Delivery Technology & Infrastructure team, you will help provision, install, and maintain custom Linux servers, while also managing the return, repair, and replacement of hardware across our network.
This is a hybrid role based in our Manchester office, combining hands-on technical responsibilities with a structured approach to logistics management.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Responsibilities
- Provision and install bespoke hardware and software at client sites
- Conduct remote installation and support for Linux-based servers across customer networks
- Monitor system and network performance proactively; respond to and resolve incidents
- Collaborate with Development and Support teams to troubleshoot and maintain systems
- Use automation tools (e.g. Ansible) to streamline configuration and deployments
- Perform general system administration, including databases, applications, and web servers
- Document installations, system changes, and standard operating procedures
Logistics Responsibilities
- Track packages and deliveries, resolve shipping or delivery issues, and report on delivery status
- Manage and enforce the return of faulty hardware owned by Unique X
- Coordinate and process RMAs (Return Merchandise Authorisations)
- Oversee the return, repair, or replacement of faulty servers and equipment under warranty from suppliers
- Maintain accurate records of hardware movement and status
Who We're Looking For
You're passionate about Linux systems and bring a structured, reliable approach to tracking and managing hardware logistics. You're organised, adaptable, and comfortable working across different areas of the business. With strong communication skills, you're confident working with suppliers, couriers, and internal teams to get results.
Essential Skills
- Foundation in Linux server administration
- Familiarity with Ansible or similar orchestration tools
- Understanding of networking concepts – VPNs, subnetting, firewalls, routing
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage third-party suppliers and logistics partners
Desirable Skills
- Scripting languages – Python, Bash
- Monitoring tools – SNMP, GMS
- Source control systems – GitHub, Bitbucket
- LPIC-1 or similar Linux certification
- Language skills – Spanish or German
