🚀 Contract Engineering Lead / Head of Engineering Delivery – Outside IR35

💰 Up to £700 per day | Outside IR35

🌍 Fully Remote (UK)

I'm working exclusively with a global, household-name organisation looking for an experienced Engineering Lead to take ownership of the technical digital delivery (ideally through an externak agency or outsourced partner), architecture and engineering squads behind a large portfolio of high-traffic, consumer-facing websites.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who combines a strong hands-on engineering background with technical leadership and delivery expertise, and enjoys shaping how engineering teams operate.

You'll be joining at an exciting point of transformation, with a focus on consolidating platforms, modernising architecture and improving engineering delivery across multiple digital products.

🔧 What you'll be doing:

• Leading and shaping engineering squads across development, QA and delivery.
• Taking ownership of technical solution design, architecture and delivery.
• Working closely with product leadership to translate business priorities into technical solutions.
• Defining squad structures, engineering standards and ways of working.
• Driving platform consolidation and modernisation across a large website portfolio.
• Providing hands-on technical leadership across a modern React/Next.js ecosystem.
• Improving platform performance, security, release processes and engineering efficiency.
• Managing external engineering partners and ensuring high-quality delivery.

💻 What we're looking for:

• A strong engineering background, with hands-on experience in Typescript, React, Next.js and Vercel.
• Experience with headless CMS platforms such as Contentful or Umbraco .
• Proven experience leading, building and structuring engineering squads.
• Strong technical architecture and solution design capabilities.
• Experience overseeing engineering delivery through external development partners or agencies.
• A track record of modernising or consolidating large-scale web platforms.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate technical decisions, risks and priorities to the wider business.

This isn't a purely delivery-focused role. We need someone who can bridge the gap between hands-on engineering, technical strategy and delivery leadership , particularly during the initial stages of the contract.
