The Role
At Man Group, we run large Python research compute clusters. We have a long history of pioneering technology in finance, and this role presents the opportunity to join us, as we work towards building scalable compute for research and software development to help identify and execute on investment opportunities.
We are looking for a high-performing Senior Python Platform Engineer to build solutions that make use of the latest capabilities in compute infrastructure. This role is at the intersection of technology and finance, helping to deliver high-impact, novel solutions that touch every part of our business.
Working in our Developer Platform team, you will build the core research platform and infrastructure used across Man Group. You will also partner with teams across the business to create APIs and frameworks that allow researchers and developers to augment, automate and transform our investment and operational workflows.
Role Responsibilities
- Lead the design, build and maintenance of Man’s core Python compute platform
- Partner with stakeholders in research, trading and technology, to design and build open-source cluster-compute technologies
- Be aware of and actively monitor the latest developments in applied cluster compute, particularly Python facing libraries and tools
- Identify and implement novel solutions - we take the best of what the open-source world has to offer and make it fit our needs, often contributing back to upstream projects
- Proactively engage with teams across the business to promote understanding and adoption of our compute cluster capabilities
Key Competencies
Essential
- Advanced proficiency in Python, with extensive professional experience in building production applications and services
- Experience of modern cluster compute - Kubernetes, Spark, Hadoop Yarn, Ray, Airflow are some of the technologies we use
- Experience leading work in a formal software development environment alongside other engineers in a collaborative manner
- Strong experience building platforms on the Linux Operating System
- Self-organised with the ability to effectively manage time across multiple projects with competing business demands and priorities
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain a close working relationship with quantitative developers, researchers, and other stakeholders
Advantageous
- Academic record including a degree with high mathematical / computing content, or equivalent commercial experience
- Experience with GPU and CPU optimization technologies (for example, NUMA architectures or GPU profiling techniques)
- Experience with C/C , or other low-level or object-oriented languages
- Experience building tools and technologies within systematic or discretionary investing units
- Experience working with applied mathematics, financial markets and instruments, with awareness of underlying concepts
