- *About SameYou**
SameYou’s charitable purpose is to research innovations and bring these to market to help fill the gap between what brain injury survivors and their families want and need and the available services.
1 in 3 people will experience an acquired brain injury (ABI) at some point. This happens through many external factors like concussion to road traffic accidents, to internal brain trauma such as cancer to stroke and many other problems leading to complex chronic conditions. The common link is that each happens catastrophically, without warning, challenging survivors’ sense of self and worth.
More than 1.3 million people are living with the chronic, debilitating effects and costs the economy around £15 billion annually. SameYou believes these numbers underrepresent.
The true picture includes thousands of people who have mild to moderate brain injury who don’t have any aftercare and don’t use NHS services. The lack of consistent neurorehabilitation means people feel isolated and are abandoned without multidisciplinary therapy or peer group motivation.
This is one of the major healthcare inequalities every country face in the 21st century. In the UK neither the NHS nor social services take ownership and adequately fund services.
As a small, independent charity led by two people with lived experience as survivors and carers, SameYou has, despite its size, built significant influence and credibility through strategic partnerships, lived-experience leadership, and a focus on systemic change.
SameYou has created a reach of 123k social followers and a global database of 57k.
- *SameYou has funded and co-created:
- A postgraduate Advanced Clinical Practitioner training programme for nurses and allied health professionals with the University of Edinburgh
- Research into resilience in young brain injury survivors with Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, Boston
- Two large-cohort research studies with the University of Edinburgh exploring the specific needs of young brain injury survivors
- Neuro Rehabilitation Online (NROL), co-created with UCL Queen Square and East Lancashire Health Trust — the first group-based neurorehabilitation therapy to scale nationally
- An accredited mental health coaching programme for families of brain injury survivors, in partnership with the NHS National Rehabilitation Centre (Loughborough) and Mount Sinai, New York
- *2026 Scope
- Research, unique content development, awareness generation, and stakeholder engagement
- Clinical support after acute discharge
- Community networking peer support.
- *The Role**
The SameYou team has a very noticeable red thread linking the team. Everyone has a more than average individual commitment to helping change the opportunities for those chronically affected by the impact of complex brain injuries. This commitment, alongside high standards of efficiency, organisational rigour, and creative thinking, will naturally self-select the successful candidate.
