Role: AWS Python Developer – Active SC Clearance

Contract: 6 months | Up to £420 per day, Inside IR35 | Remote

About The Role This is a hands-on contract opportunity for an experienced AWS Python Developer with active Security Check (SC) clearance. You will help support and enhance an established platform, contributing to new features while investigating and resolving complex technical issues. The role combines software development with production support, so you will need to be comfortable working across application code, AWS services and system integrations.

You will assess existing code and services, identify practical opportunities for improvement, and deliver maintainable changes with an appropriate focus on risk. You will also contribute to the platform’s operational stability by troubleshooting service behaviour, supporting integrations and documenting procedures that help teams operate the service effectively. The contract is remote and is initially scheduled for six months.

Qualifications Applicants must hold active SC clearance and bring strong professional experience developing applications in Python. You should have hands-on experience with boto3 and AWS SDKs, together with practical knowledge of AWS Lambda, EC2, S3, SQS, DynamoDB and CloudWatch. Experience with AWS Batch and API Gateway is also required.

You will need a track record of developing or supporting event-driven and serverless architectures, as well as strong production troubleshooting skills across multiple AWS services and integrations. The role also calls for experience creating automated tests with pytest, moto or similar tools, and the ability to produce clear technical documentation and operational support procedures.

Experience with large-scale ETL platforms, technical design discussions, and improvements to service performance, maintainability or operational stability would be beneficial. Familiarity with GitHub Copilot or agentic development workflows is also useful. Above all, you should be able to understand an existing technical environment and recommend pragmatic implementation approaches.

Responsibilities Develop and enhance platform capabilities using Python, boto3 and relevant AWS services. Support the live service by investigating incidents, analysing logs and monitoring information, identifying root causes, and implementing or recommending effective resolutions. Work across service integrations and event-driven workflows to help maintain dependable platform behaviour.

Review existing code and deliver clear, maintainable, low-risk changes. Build and run automated tests to support quality and reduce the likelihood of regressions. Contribute to technical design discussions, agree practical implementation options with relevant stakeholders, and help improve application performance and service operability. Maintain accurate technical documentation and operational guidance so that support procedures are clear and useful.
