Python Developer
Job description
Backend Python Engineer | Python, Postgres, APIs, LLMs | Self-Funded Market Intelligence SaaS Serving Banks and Household Brands
- Salary: £45,000 - £60,000
- Location: hybrid, 3 days a week in central London (Waterloo and London Bridge)
- Degree: computer science, maths or a science subject
- UK right to work required
I'm working with a self-funded market intelligence business in London that's hiring a Backend Python Engineer to build the APIs its trading clients plug straight into. The platform spots market-moving events early, so clients from hedge funds to household-name brands can act before the news is widely reported.
It's a team of about 20 with a flat structure, and you'll sit with the co-founder three days a week. The work is backend through and through: Python, Postgres and data pipelines, with LLMs built into the product. You'll also have the backing to lead how the whole business uses AI.
What They're Looking For (Non-Negotiables)
- Python: six months to two years of commercial backend experience, internships included
- APIs: designing, building and consuming them
- PostgreSQL: relational data modelling and SQL
- LLM APIs: you've built with Claude, OpenAI or similar, at work or on your own projects
- AI coding tools: Claude Code, Cursor or similar, part of how you have always built software
- You bring ideas on tooling and process, and you push for them
- You're keen to learn and open to feedback from senior engineers
What You'll Work With
- Amazon Web Services (AWS)
- Claude API
- Data pipelines: fetching external data and building tables
- React, alongside the full-stack engineers
Nice to Haves
- Trading, pricing or market data
- Financial data feeds
- LLM features in production
Why Join / Projects
Your first project is connecting the platform directly to client systems through APIs, starting with algorithmic trading firms and hedge funds. The wider client list runs from global banks to well-known food and drink brands.
- You'll own AI for the business, finding uses well beyond engineering and championing them across the company.
- You'll have the co-founder's ear, with the freedom to recommend and make changes to tooling and direction.
- You'll learn from two senior full-stack engineers in a small, flat team.
- The business is self-funded, breaking even and growing, with no need to raise money.
Employee Benefits
- Salary review every Q1
- 25 days paid holiday
- No overtime culture
- Casual dress, free tea and coffee, and a free drinks fridge on Thursdays
There are two interview stages, an introductory interview and a live Python test, and they're moving quickly, so apply and I'll give you a call.
