Requirements
Must have:
- Strong, hands-on experience designing and building modern software using Java, following established design principles and patterns at scale - Practical experience using Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Behaviour-Driven Development (BDD) to create well-tested, reliable software - Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs and working within microservice architectures - Confidence working in cloud environments such as AWS or Azure, including deploying and running production services - Experience working with both SQL and NoSQL databases (for example Postgres, MySQL or MongoDB) - Ability to build and maintain robust automated test suites that support continuous integration and deployment - Experience leading or mentoring engineers within multidisciplinary agile teams, setting standards, supporting delivery, and creating an inclusive, collaborative team culture
Responsibilities:
- Design, build and operate software that underpins critical payment systems in the UK - Ensure services are highly available, secure and resilient for millions of users - Collaborate within agile, multidisciplinary teams, working closely with product managers, delivery colleagues, testers and architects - Write and review code, influencing how services are designed, built, tested and supported in live operation - Take ownership of the stability and resilience of the systems, utilizing monitoring, alerting and continuous improvement - Coach and mentor other engineers, promoting modern engineering practices - Shape technical direction both within the team and across the wider engineering community - Solve complex problems and contribute to building technology that genuinely makes a difference
