Are you a PHP Developer looking to work on systems that genuinely matter? My client is hiring a Mid-Level PHP Developer to join their Newcastle-based team, working on business-critical platforms that process large volumes of data and financial transactions.
This is a role where your code has real visibility, real responsibility, and real impact.
You'll be joining a team that builds and maintains established, high-traffic systems at the heart of the business. You'll take ownership of features from concept through to production, collaborate closely with senior developers on design and complex changes, and play a key role in mentoring junior developers.
The position begins office-based in Newcastle, with the opportunity to move to a hybrid working model after probation.
Developing and maintaining RESTful APIs using Laravel, Symfony, or similar frameworks
Building new features and enhancing existing PHP applications
Refactoring and optimising legacy code in a safe, production-focused way
Writing efficient MySQL queries and working with ORMs while understanding the underlying SQL
Integrating third-party APIs, webhooks, and SFTP feeds
Implementing background tasks and scheduled jobs
Debugging production issues and contributing to code reviews
3–5 years of commercial PHP development experience
Strong knowledge of OOP and MVC principles
Hands-on experience with Laravel or Symfony in production environments
Solid MySQL/SQL skills, including joins, indexes, and transactions A good understanding of REST APIs and HTTP fundamentals
Comfort working with Git, the command line, and Linux basics A detail-oriented, careful approach to production code and a collaborative mindset
Experience with ORMs such as Doctrine or Eloquent
Background processing or cron job experience
Exposure to data-heavy or transactional systems
