I am a soon-to-be qualified Occupational Therapist graduating from the BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy programme at the University of Plymouth. I am a motivated, compassionate, and reflective practitioner with a strong interest in frailty and intermediate care services. I am committed to delivering person-centred, evidence-based care that promotes independence, functional ability, and quality of life.

Through my practice placements, I have developed skills in holistic assessment, goal setting, discharge planning, and multidisciplinary team working across acute and community settings. I am confident in adapting my communication style to meet individual needs and supporting people with a range of physical, cognitive, and psychosocial challenges.

Occupational Therapy Student – Practice Placements - University of Plymouth

Completed 3 clinical practice placements across paediatric private practice, acute inpatient rehabilitation, and inpatient dementia care

• Developed competence in holistic occupational therapy assessment, clinical reasoning, and intervention planning under supervision
• Experience supporting individuals with complex needs including post-surgical rehabilitation (amputees), cognitive impairment (dementia), and developmental conditions (paediatrics)
• Contributed to MDT working including occupational therapists, physiotherapists, nurses, and medical teams
• Supported discharge planning, equipment provision, and functional rehabilitation to promote independence and safety

Occupational Therapy Student – Placement 1 (Paediatrics) - Private Practice

Completed an occupational therapy placement within a private paediatric service, working with children presenting with developmental, sensory, and functional difficulties

• Supported assessment and intervention planning under supervision, contributing to person-centred goal setting with children and families
• Developed skills in communication, engagement, and adapting therapeutic activities to meet individual needs
• Gained experience in activity analysis, sensory-based approaches, and family-centred practice

Occupational Therapy Student – Placement 2 (Acute Inpatient - Amputees) - Acute Inpatient Setting

Worked within an acute inpatient setting supporting patients following upper and lower limb amputations

• Assisted with holistic assessments focusing on functional ability, discharge planning, and rehabilitation goals
• Gained experience in post-operative rehabilitation, phantom limb considerations, and early-stage functional recovery
• Supported provision of equipment and recommendations to facilitate safe discharge and maximise independence
• Worked closely with MDT members including surgeons, physiotherapists, nurses, and prosthetics teams

Occupational Therapy Student – Placement 3 (Inpatient Dementia Ward) - Inpatient Dementia Ward

Completed a placement on an inpatient dementia ward supporting adults with cognitive impairment and complex care needs

• Developed skills in cognitive assessment, functional observation, and behaviour-informed intervention strategies
• Supported patients with maintaining independence in activities of daily living through graded assistance and environmental adaptation
• Worked with families and carers to promote understanding of dementia and support discharge planning where appropriate
• Strengthened communication skills using adapted approaches for cognitive and communication difficulties
