Provide hands-on technical support to engineering activities, responding to equipment faults and user queries and working with engineers, technicians, academics and external contractors.

• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and reactive repairs on CNC machines, lathes, milling machines, saws and associated workshop equipment to minimise downtime.
• Diagnose mechanical faults, identify root causes and implement practical corrective actions before testing equipment and returning it safely to service.
• Maintain and repair pneumatic and hydraulic systems including valves, seals, fittings, airlines and dampers, alongside bearings, belts, coolant systems and mechanical assemblies.
• Manufacture replacement components using manual and CNC machine tools when original parts are unavailable, working from engineering drawings and specifications.
• Support equipment installation, machine setup, testing, commissioning and recommissioning following maintenance or repair.
• Maintain maintenance records and support safe working practices, equipment inspections and workshop Health & Safety requirements.
• Explain technical issues and safe equipment operation clearly to students and research staff with varying levels of engineering knowledge.
• Diagnosed and repaired an XYZ Proturn SLX 355 CNC lathe door-interlock fault by stripping, cleaning, realigning and testing the mechanism, restoring the machine to service.
• Rebuilt pneumatic valve assemblies on a Hurco VM10 and repaired the Hurco VM60U automatic tool changer by replacing ageing airlines and fittings.
• Rebuilt a hydraulic damper on a horizontal bandsaw using new seals and hydraulic oil and serviced workshop coolant systems.
• Maintain FloWave, the world's only circular wave and current simulation facility, carrying out planned and reactive maintenance on pipework, valves, filters, dampers, drive belts, load cells, light gauges and associated instrumentation.
• Strip, inspect and rebuild milling machine heads, diagnosing faults and replacing worn mechanical components.
• Manufacture replacement mechanical components and support machine strip-downs, rebuilds, testing and recommissioning.
