This diverse role provided me with a variety of skills for the workplace, that allows me to be a flexible, adaptable worker :
Café worker: expected to prepare drinks and hot food for the customers, this often depended on effective communication and organisation skills between my peers to ensure the customers would receive these in sufficient time.
Gift Shop till: this involved working at the till, which enriched my communication skills with the customers, and restocking the gift shop, which allowed for my organisation and adaptability skills to develop.
Front Desk till: this improved my customer communication skills, as it involved greeting the customers when they entered the centre and providing them with tickets. Additionally, often the customers would ask me questions about their day at the wildlife centre, which helped to improve my adaptability and problem-solving skills.
This week’s work experience within the BP Sunbury on Thames offices provided an insight into what it’s like working in a global TNC. During this week, there was a variety of group activities, which aided my team working and communication skills, and speakers who spoke of their own experience of working in BP and how to improve our skills within the workplace. These activities included group presentations and working with different areas of the departments within BP, such as HR and scientists there, providing a fascinating, enriching experience into how a large company like BP operates.
