Handles and Ironmongery - Warehouse Operative
Nov 2014 - Jan 2016
I worked at Handles and Ironmongery for nearly a year and a half and during that time I completed an apprenticeship in warehousing and storage. Here I developed an initial understanding of health and safety legislation within a professional environment. I also learnt how a warehouse works on an operational level. I gained a comprehensive understanding of the different roles and skills that exist within a warehouse. Although it was a warehousing apprenticeship, there was had a trade counter, so I interacted with customers on a daily basis which helped drive my passion for customer satisfaction. I also feel that having previously completed an apprenticeship will be beneficial to roles that offer professional development opportunities.
Tuffnells - Warehouse operative
Jan 2016 - Nov 2016 (April 2018 - June 2018)
During my time at Tuffnells I built on my existing teamworking skills and also gained the knowledge of how to load a trailer whilst adhering to health and safety legislation as well as local policy, I was allocated my own trailer daily as I became very adept at this aspect of the role.
I have been trained in almost every part of the warehouse and my time here allowed me to develop excellent communication skills due to the variety of different role types and departments within the business.
Card Factory - Supervisor
March 2017 - April 2018
During my time here was responsible for day-to-day management of the store. There was a high level of responsibility in this role, as I was tasked with; cash management, dealing with complaints, refunds and exchanges, ordering stock, handling and putting away deliveries and staff training. I gained strong leadership skills during my time here, I developed a good understanding of how to delegate effectively, how to organize a team and ensure people were doing tasks that suited their abilities as well as health, safety and security procedures as I was often the key holder on site.
DPD - Warehouse Operative
June 2018 - September 2021
I joined DPD in 2018 as an agency worker and was offered a permanent contract almost immediately; within five weeks of working there I had my permanent contract. My job role has changed throughout my time there from sorting incoming collections out into the right categories and making sure the warehouse is in a presentable condition to debriefing the drivers in the office.
In the warehouse my job role was to sort the different types of parcels. In the office, I debrief the drivers when they have come back from delivering parcels and I need to make sure that everything on their route is okay, making sure that they have no parcels that they haven’t delivered. Because it is a depot, it deals with the surrounding area postcodes; CV, LE and NN postcodes, if a customer isn’t home when a delivery driver attempts to deliver their parcel, they can come to the depot to pick it up and I have done many handovers of peoples parcels to them.
Also, at DPD, I was chosen to be my managers second in command, which meant I had a lot more responsibility and was often the acting shift manager when my manager was not on site and due to the shift we did that would often mean I oversaw the whole dept and making sure the end of shift was closed down properly.
Hellofresh - Warehouse Operative
September 2021 – March 2022
During my time at Hellofresh, my main roles and responsibilities were unloading the fresh produce off the delivery lorries and crosschecking the stock unloaded against the paperwork ensuring they are the quantities we ordered. Once those lorries were unloaded, the ingredients had to be put away in the respective storage areas. I had worked in other areas of the warehouse, such as the outbound area where the hellofresh food parcels are loaded onto trailers to go out for delivery,
with that came the outbound paperwork that we had to fill out so the office and driver knew what parcels they had onboard. All of the warehouse work is conducted on MHE equipment so I have had extensive experience using them.
Middlemarch Farm - Chef
April 2022 – September 2022
During my time at Middlemarch Farm, I joined a very busy pub restaurant team with three different sections of the kitchen. There was a carvery deck, a main line menu and also our own in house bakery. I was part of the carvery team, which included preparing the food on early morning shifts for the day ahead and also doing the close down of the carvery in the evening. Our busiest days were Sundays so I was needed as one of the carvers due to the amount of customers we had, there was two carvers required. I often managed the carvery deck when management were on breaks or had finished for the day. One of the critically important responsibilities was ensuring all our paperwork was completed correctly to adhere to EHO standards.
Halo Pubs Ltd – General Manager
September 2022 – May 2024
I joined Halo Pubs Ltd in September 2022 as one of their general managers that help get empty pubs up and running. Over the course of my time with this company, I have been a general manager of three very different public houses.
December 2022 – April 2023
The Butchers Arms was the first public house I was a joint general manager of, with my partner.
It’s a rural, small village pub that also had the potential for a food offering, of which I took advantage of. There were many responsiblities and jobs, including ordering stock, ensuring all paperwork is EHO compliant, writing new menus, maintaining the cleanliness of the pub. Due to this public house being smaller, we only had one additional member of staff so we also worked on the bar frequently The Three Horseshoes
April 2023 – February 2024
The Three Horseshoes was village pub but was much bigger than The Butchers Arms so we had to hire a whole team of staff. During the summer months, we had upto 14 members of staff working for us, so one of our main roles was ensuring our staff were happy, paid correctly and looked after. The food offering was a much bigger opportunity, with food sales rising very quickly.
We also planned our very own family fun day events, live music events and 3 day beer and food festival planned during my time there. Planning these events helped develop my confidence in my position and helped further my knowledge of managing staff and ensuring everyone does their jobs.
February 2024 – May 2024
The Wash and Tope was not only a pub restaurant, it also has 11 hotel rooms and is based on
Hunstanton’s seafront. This pub is the largest all of three sites I managed for Halo Pubs and I learnt a lot during my time there. My management skills furthered here due to managing many staff with a high turnover rate as it’s based in a very seasonal job location.
During my time with Halo Pubs Ltd I learnt a great deal about managing staff, keeping correct records, managing a successful kitchen. It also helped further my organisational skills, my confidence in delegating jobs to appropriate staff members. I gained a new insight into health and safety and EHO standards also
