Responsibilities include designing automation for feedstock handling, separation, thermal extraction, heavy-metal removal, and final formulation processes.

Systems Engineer - Prototype Automation - Seaweed Processing Project - Coastal site

Leading systems engineering for a mobile seaweed processing prototype that separates heavy metals from seaweed while preserving organic matter. The prototype processes fresh seaweed feedstock directly near coastal harvest sites, incorporating sensor instrumentation, control logic, equipment selection, and physical automation.

• Design control logic and sensor-driven automation for a 6-step seaweed processing workflow
• Engineer basket transport system using single-beam overhead gantry with X and Z axes for dipping operations at 2 stations
• Integrate sensors including pH probes, temperature probes (RTD), EC/conductivity probes, and pressure sensors for real-time process monitoring
• Develop automation for centrifugal separation, thermal extraction, heavy-metal removal, and final formulation steps
• Design manual load/unload interlocks and safety systems for sealed reactor extraction (Step 4)
• Create unified logging system integrating existing reactor software with new sensor data
• Scope intake and coarse filtration system for drawing saline process water directly from coastal sites
• Design weatherproofing and environmental controls for outdoor coastal deployment (humidity, salt air, rain, wind)
