I am in essence a people person; having trained as a nurse I left to bring up a large family during which time I worked as a TA in a large secondary school English department. Latterly during this time I was caring for my mother and brother with complex needs. I am inquisitive and love to learn and am good at passing on that enthusiasm to people with different learning needs. I enjoy reading, gardening, folk music and dance, wildlife and new ideas.
The skills learnt as a nurse stood me in good stead when working with SEN children in the role of Core TA in English. These would include clear communication, patience, problem solving, listening skills, treating everyone with dignity encouragement and positivity.
I have worked with the elderly, with preschool children, primary school children and teenagers. I have supported the English department within the office and classroom as well as presented in front of the whole school, class, small groups and worked one to one. I have helped with extra curricular trips and residential visits including abroad. I have devised and provided support seminars on revision, spelling and reading support.
