My experience has a Brass teacher has been a very fulfilling experience which I have enjoyed immensely. I have a intrinsic passion for music and it will always be an important of my life. In 2017 I was extremely proud to be awarded the accolade of the Mortimer Medal for my outstanding contribution to the UK teaching young people to play brass band instruments and by their participation in youth brass bands.
My current teaching posts are :-
- Upper Brass teacher at Bolton School Boys division where I teach ages 8-18 to play the Cornet/Trumpet to prepare for Grade exams 1-8 for Trinity and ABRSM , GCSE and A level performance , Young musician competition and concerts. A position I have held since 2013.
- Run a weekly musical group for young adults with learning and physical disabilities called CreateBoltones giving the opportunity to enhance their life with the opportunity to create music, friendships , building confidence and offer musical performances for charity events. Also completed my Bronze Arts award to liaise with Lead Artist at Create to collaborate on JAM projects to join Arts and music for CreateBoltones and also school workshops and projects.
- Entrance examiner and cornet tutor for the National Youth brass band of Wales, National Youth brass band of GB and the National children’s band of GB setting high standards for entry and also to inspire and nurture the young talented musicians of the future .
- Musical director of the Stockport Schools Intermediate Brass Band which is a weekly brass band ensemble of young musicians of ages 8-15 of Grade 2-5 standards inspiring and leading to achieve and enjoy the fun and enjoyment that can be achieved with teamwork, dedication , commitment , guidance to work towards Music for Youth and National Youth Band competitions as well as workshops with RNCM and Fairey brass band and family concerts.
- Musical director of the Wessex Summer school training wind band and also Outreach project for the Belfast Youth Orchestra for around 100 students
