I'm Athena, a professional copy editor and proofreader. I offer services that honour your voice and help your words create real impact. I'm passionate about storytelling and helping others communicate with authenticity and impact. I'm especially drawn to projects that aim to inform, uplift, connect or transform.

I have over eight years of experience helping academics, authors and professionals express themselves with clarity and confidence. My freelance editing experience spans a wide spectrum of material, including training manuals, academic dissertations, creative writing, memoirs, corporate presentations, website content and business material. I also provide editing services for two international editing companies on a contract basis to clients around the world, particularly non-native English academics preparing journal articles.

I am well-versed in enhancing the accuracy, language, presentation and impact of a wide variety of texts. I believe my greatest strength is providing constructive feedback and supporting clients through the writing process, while also elevating their work through sharp language skills, critical assessment and a keen eye for clarity and consistency.

With a bachelor's degree in social sciences (Politics, Philosophy and Economics), I bring critical thinking and empathy to every project. This degree developed my capacity to think critically, to create logical, effective arguments and to consider the world through different perspectives.

I am also a certified copy editor through the University of Cape Town and an associate member of the Professional Editors' Guild of South Africa.
