I have taught for over forty years in seven countries. By far the greater part was in Saudi Arabia, where I taught English to trainees in the oil - industry, (with ARAMCO), cadets in the RSAF, (Royal Saudi Air - Force), and students at KFUPM, (KIng Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals), and associated DCC, (Dammam Community College). I also taught evening classes at a number of language schools in the cities of Al Khobar and Dammam.
Living in the Gulf enabled me, together with my family, to travel extensively. While with KFUPM I became very interested in the Japanese martial art of Aikido and, after years of practice, obtained a brown belt. I read extensively, write poetry and speak several languages to varying degrees of fluency.
My second language is French. I can ‘get by’ in Greek and Turkish and have a ‘survival’ level in Arabic, a language I wish to learn better.
As stated, I have taught for well over forty years in seven countries. Here in the UK I taught English LIterature for a year and have also worked extensively in the Supply sector. Over the past couple of years I have taught on the government - sponsored National Tutoring Programme in a number of schools.
In Greece and Germany I taught English in private language - schools. In Turkey I did likewise in a private high school. In Libya and the UAE I taught English to employees of companies in those countries.
Arabia, as stated, I taught it three very different settings.
