I am a recently qualified History Teacher, having earned a PGCE from the University of Warwick. In both my training placements I showed a passion for teaching History, wanting my students to gain a love for the subject like I had when I was their age. I have experience with teaching at Key Stages 3 & 4, familiar with the curriculum for both Key Stages. I have been able to expand my subject knowledge so that I am able to confidently teach a wide range of topics across multiple years. I was given the freedom to adapt lessons to better suit my teaching style, and even create my own lessons from scratch whilst sticking to the core theme.
I pride myself in my behaviour management, having learnt effective strategies in dealing with class disruption that can fall in line with any behavioural policy a school may employ. I believe I am fair with my behaviour management, giving students a chance to correct their attitude and behaviour before having to escalate where necessary. I also present myself as a teacher that students can come to outside of class if they have any academic queries about the curriculum, or for any wellbeing matters. I strive to form relationships with my students as I believe these relationships can help to enhance the learning journey, and better engage students with the subject. Additionally, forming these relationships can help in any pastoral situations as I can better understand how to aid each individual student.
I am primarily a History teacher as that is my specialisation, but in my second placement I was given the opportunity to teach Geography, Religious Education and PSHE at a Key Stage 3 level, meaning that I can be given a wider Humanities role if required. I have been involved in many departmental talks regarding issues such as developing new curriculum materials or implementing literacy strategies into existing lessons.
Outside my role as a teacher, I have helped to create a History film club to engage students who have an interest in the subject outside normal school hours, hosting discussions about how certain historical figures and events are portrayed in media as well as providing an opportunity for students to relieve any stress they may be experiencing in their studies. I have also taken part in school trips, both subject-specific and non-educational such as a trip to the zoo, and in Sports Day, running the discus.
I am a recent graduate from the University of Warwick, having just received my PGCE after a 1 year course. Whilst I have no professional experience as a teacher, I am fully prepared, and excited, to enter my ECT years.
I have recently finished my Postgraduate Certificate in Education with the University of Warwick, having done my History and Politics undergraduate degree with the same university during the years 2018-2021. At St Michael's Catholic College, I received an A in History, an A in Chemistry, an A in AS Maths, a B in Maths and an A* in my EPQ.
