I like to think that I am an individual who works well both independently and with others as part of a team. I have strong communication skills and a willingness to lead, having been appointed as an Associate Director in my last job, a position I held for many years. I am happy to take responsibility for both myself and those around me.
I like tasks to be done correctly and logically, organisation is key and as a wise American once said "if you fail to plan, you are planning to fail!" I feel this applies to everything we all undertake and especially work.
Architectural Design Manager and Associate Director at Russ Drage Architects (RDA) (2003-03 – 2025-02)
Following the completion of my degree at the Brighton University in 2002, I started work for RDA in 2003 and over the course of time the company expanded from a two man team to a team of ten, working on small residential schemes to large mixed use projects. This post has had me involved in a wide variety of projects, creating new places and environments for people to live and thrive, whether it be purpose built student accommodation or a mixed use residential scheme, the focus of our work is to make places as great as they can be. It has been a wonderful and significant period of my employed life and I can safely say that most of the days have been great.
I am now looking for chance to embrace a new career and opportunity to make a change to the environment in which we live and the opportunity to work with a team on the parks and open spaces in Brighton sounds like the perfect challenge for me at this stage in my life.
BA Hons in Architecture at Univeristy of Brighton (1999-09 – 2003-01)
Arriving at University as a mature student it was a shock to the system, but something that I grew to enjoy, albeit at that time I had to finance my own way through and did so with part time employment with Alliance & Leicster, American Express and also as a Gardener.
Various Roles at Mixed Employment and Locations (1997-06 – 1999-08)
During this part of my life I was travelling and working, having found myself at a loose end and with a couple of quid in my pocket, I went and stayed with friends around the country and worked teaching children Art at summer school, I worked in bars in Oxford and London, a restaurant in Newquay, during my time in Newquay became friends with an Artist who worked in London who had seen some of my artwork, he asked me to work with him back in London and so there I went and we painted murals in bars just off Oxford Street (until that dried up) and I had to move back to my Mum's house for a brief period before the lure of University life beckoned.
Graphic Designer and Artist at Moody Painters (1994-04 – 1997-05)
I started working as part of a small independent design team (based in a small studio behind Green River Records on Oxford's Cowley Road) after being approached by a friend during my A Level Graphic Design course, it was a small venture part funded by the Princes Youth Business scheme. We did large scale artwork and 3D decoration for bars and clubs (this also included flyer design). We were later employed by EMI to design all of their early record sleeves for the band Supergrass, very rewarding and great fun.
