I have worked at Stafford College for 24 years and currently hold the position of Estate Supervisor. During that time, I have developed substantial practical experience in the safe, efficient day-to-day operation of a large and busy educational estate covering approximately 32,000 square metres. My experience combines estates and facilities support, staff supervision, maintenance coordination, health and safety awareness and customer service.
I believe this gives me a strong and relevant foundation for the role.
Estate Supervisor at Stafford College (Present)
In my current role, I help manage the daily operation of the college estate. My responsibilities include supervising caretaking staff, allocating work, planning staff rotas and workloads, and coordinating maintenance requests. I have to balance planned work with urgent issues and changing operational demands, ensuring that priorities are understood and work is dealt with in a practical and timely way.
Working across a large site has developed my organisation, time management and problem-solving skills. I am used to assessing what needs attention, deciding the order in which work should be completed and communicating those priorities to the team. I work well independently and take responsibility for my decisions, while also recognising when an issue needs to be discussed or escalated.
My supervisory experience includes planning workloads, allocating duties and supporting caretaking staff in their day-to-day work. I understand that effective supervision depends on clear instructions, realistic priorities and consistent standards. I aim to be approachable and straightforward, while making sure that staff understand what is expected and that work is carried out safely.
I communicate with a wide range of people, including colleagues, students, contractors and visitors. This requires patience, professionalism and the ability to explain information clearly. I understand that estates and facilities teams are often the first point of contact when something has gone wrong, so it is important to listen, respond calmly and keep people informed.
