Learning Support Assistant
This job has involved working with and supporting students in classroom environments across many subjects by explaining academic material, maintaining their engagement with work, monitoring their progress and submitting daily reports on their attainment of targets outlined in EHCPs. Students who I have supported tend to have distinct educational requirements as a consequence of neurodevelopmental conditions and/or mental health conditions. I have also been responsible for keeping track of their social and emotional well-being and relaying any critical information to a safeguarding team, as well as managing the administration of medication (such as insulin injections for type 1 diabetics).
This role has permitted me to develop a broadened understanding of how different professionals, including teachers, teaching assistants, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and educational psychologists, are collectively implicated within the developmental trajectory of students.
