1992 – 2005 Sussex Army Cadet Force

Detachment Commander. I started as a Sergeant Instructor and worked my way up through the rank structure to Lieutenant (Territorial Group B Commission). My responsibilities included the welfare of the cadets (13-18yrs old, girls and boys) and the smooth running of the Detachment. This included planning weekends away, indoor and outdoor training exercises, and two week training cadres at our annual camp.

Involved

PowerPoint presentations, training calendars to ensure the cadets had the required knowledge before any testing, permission requests for training areas, transportation and logistics. Was also involved with the training of the KITKAR Display teams which have appeared on Blue Peter, U Bet, Festival of Remembrance Royal Albert Hall and the 60th VE day commemorations at Hyde Park.

Riflery Instructor at Cottontail Ranch (Summer Camp) (1991-07 – 1991-10)

• Teaching 6-17 year olds weapon safety, cleaning and marksmanship skills.
• Planned entertainment and beach camp outs.
• This was also a great opportunity to interact with a very diverse group of cultures from all over the world including Russia, Japan and Spain.
• Then travelled from the West to East Coast of North America before returning to the UK.
