Can Polat

I am a detail-oriented and driven fresh graduate who is passionate about working in the sustainability and strategy fields.

In my academic life, I have always studied at reputable schools. In this manner, I completed my undergraduate degree at one of the best universities in Turkey, Bogazici University. Following that, I completed my postgraduate studies at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).

In addition, I completed an exchange education at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, and a summer school program at Sciences Po, France. Accordingly, I had various opportunities to gain international experiences throughout my academic life since the schools I studied were across different countries. These experiences highly contributed to me as I developed a broad and global, versatile perspective.

During my graduate and postgraduate education. I’ve always been interested in sustainability and green transition fields, and I have always been interested in working in this field. In this regard, during my voluntary internships, I worked on sustainability and green transition policies at every opportunity. Also, I always focused on working on this subject during my voluntary work and projects in line with my interest in sustainability.

I offer a history of proven results, as evidenced by the following achievements:

♻️ As an intern at EY, I was involved in the company’s Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan project, strongly collaborated with the project team, gathered data, translated documents, and prepared reports in a fast-paced environment.

♻️ During my study at the University of Gothenburg, as part of a project, I prepared a project report on the green transition in the EU energy policy, where I gained expertise in sustainable development regulations of the EU.

♻️ In my MSc at LSE, I also focused on sustainability, studied green transition in the EU, and prepared my dissertation on organic farming development in the EU as a crucial part of their sustainable development initiatives.

♻️ In addition, I had an opportunity to specialize in sustainability topics during my undergraduate education at Bogazici University and broadened my expertise on Climate Change, Environmental Politics, and Sustainability.

I am fully dedicated to contributing to these fields, and I am strongly motivated to work for my career passion.

Between March-June 2022, I made an internship at Foreign Policy Institute. As an intern, I prepared 12 policy proposals for the organisation regarding the energy and foreign policy of the EU. These proposals cover the EU member states' green energy policy and sustainability initiatives, the EU's global relations agenda, and potential security threats against Europe.

This internship opportunity allowed me to specialised in energy politics and the European Union’s security policy through 60 hours of training sessions led by experts.

I also made an internship at EY as consulting intern between September -November, 2022. As an intern at EY, participated in the company’s Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan project, which focuses on the sustainable transformation of 2 Turkish cities and is co-funded by the European Union and the World Bank.

During my internship, I closely collaborated with Senior and associated with the project team on information gathering through interviews, data collection, document translation, and the preparation of client reports.

Between 2018 - 2023, I completed my undergraduate degree at one of the best universities in Turkey, Bogazici University, in the field of Political Science and International Relations. During my undergraduate education, I took courses of Environment and Politics, Sustainability Leadership, Global Climate Change, and Business Environment, which enhanced my passion and knowledge in sustainability.

Also, between 2023-2024, I completed my MSc in European and International Public Policy at London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). During this academic experience, with courses like Political Economy of Green Transition in Europe and Analytical Politics and Policymaking in Europe, I enhanced my expertise in EU regulations and sustainable transformation policies in European and International context. During my MSc, I prepared a dissertation regarding the Role of Common Agricultural Policy Payments on Organic Farming Development in the EU.

In this manner, my dissertation deeply analysed and reproached to European Union agricultural policy and their implications for sustainable food production, which is awarded with High Merit.
